It's a simple equation:

Revenue = (value of data per person) x (number of customers) - (probably of data loss) x (probability of fine) x (cost of fine).

If that number is greater than zero, they'll do it, if it's less than zero, they won't.

This is the thought which comes around often.

The problem is, for an intellectual, it's important to live in an environment rich with mental talent. Bay Area is the intellectual capital of the world, and while Einstein could maintain his patent clerkship and have famous physicists visit him in Bern (http://norvig.com/performance-review.html) for the lesser minds in another era settling on another place is a loss.

It's odd to me that Apple has never offered a 24h turnaround (or cross ship) higher tier support package. This was a hold up for businesses using Apple machines for a long time. I guess enough employees started requesting Apple machines eventually getting businesses to offer them anyway.

They offer “express replacements” with applecare, I did it for my broken ipad. They overnighted me a new one and I sent the old one back to them in the included box/label.

Isnt this the 4th incident in like a week? Seems like its actually a routine occurence but the media is choosing to fixate/overreport it after the spy baloon.

Either that or china’s genuinely trying to test our response times and protocols in preperation for something down the line

A direct e-file, obviously, is great, but I really just want to get a document near the beginning of the year where the IRS tells me what they believe my taxes owed/returned should be. Let me accept/verify or contest it and make everyone's lives easier. Anyone who'd need to contest/change theirs, probably already has an accounting firm handling all this anyways.

This is how they do it in most of europe iirc
