If you haven't personally witnessed a Total Solar Eclipse, and haven't seen this Smarter Every Day video, it's worth the watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNK2LI7VeX4

He interviewed the guy who wrote the Solar Eclipse Timer app (https://www.solareclipsetimer.com) and also publishes a ton of info about eclipses in general (especially how to spot all the different interesting parts, and how to capture it on camera). That info is in a book here: https://solar-eclipse-timer.myshopify.com

No affiliation with either of them, just they have some of the most succinct and helpful info, especially for sharing with other people too (I hope to have my kids manage a few experiments during totality, assuming we don't get any clouds!).

This response is EXACTLY emblematic of why HN has my trust. Great insights, many thanks.

The pros and cons of the early adopter.

Factors like weight and comfort often arise. Perhaps a future strategy in this space will be to minimise the headset componentry by shifting as much as possible externally, similar to how Apple has approached the battery issue with the Vision Pro.

(imagination running with that idea : future iphones and Macs will be the processing units for more-compact future Vision Pros)

Maybe AVP aspirationally (once in sunglass form factor) seeks to replace iPad, then Mac, then iPhone?

Meta/off-topic: we gripe mightily here about clickbait titles (and legitimately so), but huzzah to this headline. Majestic and mellifluous. Pure poetry.

Yeah I'm not really a fan of wireless headphones, personally. I'd just like to use my DT 770s to listen to music on my phone without having to bring an extra adapter with me everywhere, and while being able to charge the phone at the same time if necessary.

Ever since the iPad Pro came out, Appe has had a first-party 3.5 female to USB-C dongle for wired audio

Gerontocracy is the symptom. Citizens United and court/regulatory capture are the linked causes.

"Only 5 websites each mostly screenshots of the other 4" makes signal to noise more than difficult. Amplify the mutually adverse forces of SEO and advertising dark patterns and here we are, alas

A couple of decades back, I was on my way back down from Half Dome and there was a bit of a traffic jam in the trees of jittery hikers and even more nervous pack horses--a black bear was about 50 yards ahead. Without warning, the bear made a dash for a deer not seen (by humans) until startled.

The bear had made a considered cost/benefit analysis that it could catch a deer. Still gives me the willies.
