This is a real shame. It was much better than eBay was if you were into obscure/esotric stuff with low press counts. I don't collect as much as I used to because I spend less time listening to music that I used to, but I got a lot of stuff off Discogs that I only got because I marked that I was looking.

Not just obscure stuff, but also any release with several variants. On Discogs, you can easily find that one variant of a single with that one specific remix that is missing on all other variants of that single. Good luck with that on eBay, especially if track lists are missing.

Meta/off-topic: we gripe mightily here about clickbait titles (and legitimately so), but huzzah to this headline. Majestic and mellifluous. Pure poetry.

I remember when their website was a simple catalog with lookup. It was peak usability. Then they modernised with modern bliat, and now its yet another website I have to avoid.

Is Discogs venture backed and are they now gearing up for sale?
