One of these should help with setting up a new laptop to run Rails:

Cool, but why not just use Docker? 2-4GB extra ram overhead and some initial learning curve, add a decent Makefile and.. never worry about local env ever again. Switch back and forth between Mac, Windows, Linux like it's nothing.

Fascinating that he wanted an expert C developer with a PHD who'd build stuff in one third of the time it takes others.

Or just open chat.openai.com in Safari and do a “Add to Homescreen”. Before the official app, I was using cgpt on my phone like that and it worked well.

You need to login each time if you use Safari in private browsing mode.

Canada has social healthcare that is already stretched to its limits in many areas. I'm not sure they can afford to take in every relative who wants to come but has never paid into healthcare.
mrgill · 4 years ago
That's easy, make it so that unlimited amounts of parents can come if the child is a citizen, but they'll have to buy their own insurance.

Canada and Australia go further with easier immigration process for first degree relatives, which is important in Asian culture. In Germany, for example, you need to be a minor in order to bring your parents or prove "exceptional hardship" [0]

Canada only allows like 10-20k parental PRs each year, and 100s of thousands of people apply for it each year (and increasing).

Not really any good. Compare that to the US where your parents get a GC no questions asked if you're a citizen.

The H1-B program was practically designed to give foreign agents an easy way into our infrastructure.

Think of our top political enemies and consider which direction the Visas go.

Should've made a browser extension for Chrome/Firefox.

Without that, how can this ever come to the browser?

I have started to watch more videos at > real-time speeds.

Depends on the quality of the video but can get at least x1.25 and upto x1.75 without my brain frying.

Instead of reading what if this was text->speech at a multiple?

mrgill · 4 years ago
My default for watching any video is 2.0x. Up to 3.0x/3.5x.

I tried Backblaze's backup plan.

Their software is just not good, I would say it's even bad. It just didn't work for me.

Something poorly written that they just didn't bother to improve. I guess because most of their customers can't tell the difference anyway whether it's working or not.
