mkeespiet commented on Ask HN: What kind of expedition data would be interesting to analyse?   4x4electric.com/dashboard... · Posted by u/mkeespiet

Good day all!

Together with my girlfriend we are traveling with an electric car from the Netherlands to South Africa and back. We are currently in Morocco.

With the help of two partners we are getting an enormous amount of data out of the car via the OBD port of the car. If you can think of it, it is probably an paramater that is measured, liked G-force meter, if we buckled up, cellular reception of the car and so on.

What would be nice, beside the obvious like we already have on our website (SOC, altitude, speed and soon windspeed and direction), to show on our website? And what combination of data would be interesting to analyse?

At the moment one of our partners is making this dashboard with the help of students. We are allowed, to a certain extent, to share datasets, if you would be interested to play with it.

Soon we will share more facts and figures about our expedition after the dashboard is set.

Thanks!

Maarten

Search for “Bernard van Dijk” on LinkedIn. He is a professor on an Aviation University. He has a very solid story about why hydrogen will never work in airplanes. I’m addition, a well explained video about it: https://youtu.be/nrCE9duCej0

It's neat to see this on hacker news. Good to hear that folk are noticing that our system works! I've been working on embedded systems at Zipline for 6 years, and oddly haven't made it out to Rwanda yet. Everyone there seems to know my name, though, because of all the weird problems I've helped remotely debug over the years. I think Zipline's flight operators deserve the lion's share of credit for our success in Rwanda.

Any change we can get it contact with you? For our project www.4x4electric.com we would like to visit different Zipline projects in Africa to generate more attention for this kind of projects

If you do anything that involves having an open flame indoors (and I'm including the flame inside a gas / propane fueled furnace, water-heater, etc., or a gas stove) you should have one or more CO alarms in your home as well. CO2 has its own issues, but CO is a very powerful asphyxiant and can very easily be deadly.

Can come CO from candles as well? We do not have any flames inside as we cook with induction, we only use candles as indoor flames. Nice fact: Here in the Netherlands a fire alarm will be obligated starting from this summer
