Shouldn’t we have been REALLY good at modeling tsunamis? We know so much about ocean depth, water temperatures, viscosity, salinity, etc.
Is modeling waves in a body of water really not that well understood?
I would hope that now with this data we can become exceptional at it.

rim size isn't in that equation.
Avoid vague terms like “size” when talking about a wheel. A car wheel all has a diameter, usually expressed in inches, and a width also usually expressed in inches.
It’s not clear to me which dimension folks are saying, has a relationship to brake size. I’m imagining width is the dimension related to wind efficiency, but I would nonetheless ask folks to use more accurate terms like wheel diameter or width.

You could argue the same way for a lot of parasite species, many of which are ridiculously more complex. Is a complex multicellular organism (an animal even) not alive because it needs to get some component needed for its reproduction from another species? If you get hung on such specific components, where do you draw the line?
We can survive without a constant stream of incoming raw materials. I wouldn’t think that makes us any less alive. Nor are we a parasite on the food.

Honest to God not something I care about but: this is pretty much the nail in the coffin for “master”. I do know some people _did_ care about the name. Sometimes surprisingly senior people who never supported a tech upgrade want the name changed. In any event, it’s done, “main” won, it’s fine, let’s move on.
Maybe they resisted because it was completely ridiculous waste of engineering resources all over the country and for absolutely no tangible reason other than white people trying to feel better about themselves.
I work in the field of film mastering (with countless product names with the word “master” in it) and luckily no one got the ridiculous idea in their head that we need to change this lingo.
Show me a single person who has a valid reason for me not calling my branch “master” or my bedroom “the master”. I honestly think this sort of ridiculing word policing is why we lost this last damned election. And if you’re somehow proud that you’ve renamed your git branches, you’re very likely a contributor to that lost election.

Whenever I hear these huge job cuts, "save money", I always think: why did they hire them all in the first place?

Well two very similar companies merged. Can you imagine how they might have had A LOT of similar roles? Think departments like HR, Legal, Accounting, Finance, IT, etc.
So much duplication. You don’t need 2x those groups just because you 2x’d the company.
Additionally Paramount’s film slate is a fraction of what it was 10-20 years ago. So yes it just doesn’t take as many people to put out 1/3 of the movies each year.
Claiming it is a glitch gives the opportunity for AI companies to hide behind the excuse of "mistakes in the code", instead of recognizing the fundamental flaw of the technology in question.
At the same time, this article attempts to politicize a wider issue by relating the failings of AI to current events. In fact, this hallucination and failure is near constant, but it is no coincedence. It is the product of both technology being used before readiness, and the (hilarious) attempt by Elon to use AI as a propaganda machine to spread and legitimize his beliefs.
But I disagree that they’re not “ready” for use. I’ve never once thought to upload a photo from a CURRENT event and see what it found. That’s just silly.
This is just plain user error.
