My solution is to minimize driving at night. Harder to do in the winter, but still doable especially if you work from home.
mackieem · a year ago
I used to always find it _easier_ to drive at night because cars would be like little Christmas lights, and the contrast between headlights & the darkness of night made them very easy to spot; now I'm blinded everywhere I go. Haven't ever contemplated window tints but at this point it feels like I either need to do that, or get a higher vehicle. Or just not drive at night :')

I live in Michigan and my time is spent between two vastly different affluence levels; the richer sides have excruciatingly bright headlights that blind me in my non-tinted Sonata, and the poorer sides are riddled with the droning of modified and/or broken exhausts.

Used to like cars at one point but nowadays I find that my only (okay, only _daily_) grievances in life are noise from cars & driving at night in rich areas, both of which have soured my views on cars.

The fact that the search works impressed me more than anything. Of course, like every great magic trick, it seems so simple once it is explained.

For the curious, here's the linked blog post describing how the project works: https://eieio.games/blog/writing-down-every-uuid/

Edit to add: I'd only tried searching for an exact UUID when I wrote this comment. I didn't realize it supports full text search! Now I'm even more impressed.

I searched for 1337, and then 13371337, and then 133713371337, and I was flabbergasted they've got a search setup for this (which ctrl-f opens up). Thanks for posting the blog post!

I bought this in their pre-release sale and sold it immediately after the first day. It’s incredibly large and heavy, cheap keycaps, action doesn’t really feel nice for typing, latency was high, wired only, and I could not find a good use for the multi-stage-activation feature.

With the high latency (I measured up to 90ms at 1000hz which is ridiculously high), and competitive games banning use of macros, it’s pretty useless for gaming.

mackieem · a year ago
I also have a poor experience with a Nuphy wireless keyboard - it suffers terribly from interference. If the dongle is further than a ft away, especially if there's no line of sight, then it has terrible latency + will miss keypresses + double keypress.

I still use it every day and have for a couple years now, but it's annoying to have to have the keyboard so close to my dock.

Makes me wonder what Logitech is doing differently with their 2.4ghz dongles that makes them work so well.

hiatal hernia runs in my family, so it's genetic for me

not sure where you're coming from but LOL for a disease that definitely leads people to die of esophageal cancer on a regular basis not to mention makes living and exercising difficult seems....inappropriate ?

mackieem · 3 years ago
Their "LOL" was in reference to the author's statement of "...personal experience led me to think about this, repeatedly" (which is the author presumably making a joke)

Taking Mint, in form of raw washed leaves, in tea form or even in capsule form (pudin hara) has greatly reduced my acid reflux. Might be worth trying.

Strength: Capsule > Leaves > Mint tea

Usually we eat the raw leaves. They are tasty! You can make a salad out of it.

At night drink some mint tea.

And in emergency take a capsule.

mackieem · 3 years ago
A book I read recently called "Why Stomach Acid Is Good for You" has a section on bitters (which I believe would include mint) are good for reflux - their prescription is chew/eat bitters ~5 minutes before a meal.

In-ear monitors - or - earbuds, which are generally going to be wired if using 'IEM' over 'earbuds'.

A lot of the pictures have some bright stars with 6 long lens flare like points coming out of them in a consistent pattern. Is that because of the hexagonal shape of JWT's lenses/mirrors?
mackieem · 4 years ago
Yeah, it's the hexagonal shape. The objects with the 6 diffraction spikes are overexposed compared to the rest of the objects in the picture, so they're generally brighter and/or closer objects.

I think this is overhyped already. Most modern Hollywood movies and series suck. Can't put it nicely. Everything is shallow and movie makers are spelling everything out for us now. Incredibly boring. But people seem to love it. This movie is I think not much different.
mackieem · 4 years ago
I haven't stopped thinking about this movie since I saw it 2 days ago and I'm seeing it again this week/weekend.

I don't think I've ever seen a movie more than once in theaters. It's good - really good.

The last movie that was comparable was Interstellar, imo.

mackieem · 4 years ago
If your theater is anything like mine, this is exactly what's happening - I bet if you check tomorrow, you will see showtimes on Thursday. I did the _same exact thing_ with this movie last week, and it was never showing any of the days - once Wednesday rolled around though, there was finally showings on Friday.

If that ends up not being the case, you'll still have tomorrow or Wednesday to go :)
