>I am making no moral judgement here

You talk with seeming disgust about sex, I think you are.

>And allowing stigma to influence public policy decisions is harmful to the far greater majority

Yes, because if there is one thing straight people are compared to gay men it's stigmatised.

>Hiding details about outbreaks to avoid offending protected classes

The information isn't hidden - it's on the front page of BBC News in the UK where the disproportionately higher cases for gay men is. It's just unlike you they're aware that it's not a gay plague

Here's Reagan's press secretary laughing and joking about "the gay plague" when only a few hundred had died, you homophobic ghoul

>It was the same with the aids epidemic, the gay community ignored/denied/downplayed the demographic localization of HIV but the truth was that at it's height if you were not a gay male the epidemic was effectively irrelevant to your life.

There are a hell of a lot of people - and a hell of a lot of people who have sadly died - who would be very surprised to hear this. It's a pretty accepted view by those that study the AIDS epidemic that calling it a gay plague caused massive problems for people who weren't gay and contracted HIV.

Singling out gay men for what you have decided are immoral behaviours is exactly why there is a stigma around HIV and why people continue to fail to seek treatment.

Interesting context: WHO officials said: "the most recent surge in cases appears to have been spread among men who have sex with other men"

If the close contact during sex is a good way to get infected then it makes sense that a group that are largely cut off sexually from the rest of the population would see it first.

I think this information is from the UK where MSM are more likely to be engaged with their sexual health (ie get tested more often) than the population generally

For naysayers, Electron only has to support one browser flavor and one version, which eliminates one of the biggest disadvantages of building Web based apps. With Electron and similarly with nw.js, the performance can be close to par with native apps without the cross compilation issues of native c++ frameworks like Qt. And with Electron, if you want to write some native code in C/C++, you can integrate that also. The only downsides I see is protecting closed source code and the lack of Mobile support, which is not coming any time soon due to Apple blocking Google V8 engine from their platform due to V8's use of JIT compilation.

"the performance can be close to par with native apps"

That has not been my experience with any electron app. They are dog slow across the board

I can certainly say that I have seen very little of what you describe in the UK tech scene at least certainly not up in the North East where I am - perhaps London is different but I can't believe it is that different.

And as far as "dirty students sinking up the lab goes", this is more likely an isolated case rather than the prevailing norm in my experience.

It's rarely seen in normal society as well. I really don't understand where this person is coming from.

Yes, it assumes some knowledge of the language. But imagine if every article about, say, Ruby, had to explain things in a way that someone who'd only ever seen C would understand? Authors would be hamstrung, unable to talk about things at any level other than the most elementary.

If you're going to talk about the power of a language you have to allow the use of language that talks about that power. To talk about what you can do in Haskell beyond toy problems you need to allow people to use more than just toy language.

If readers aren't willing to do any work, its tough to help them learn anything new.

It doesn't just assume knowledge of the language though. Assuming knowledge of Applicative, Monad and Functor is fine but as the current top comment says there is a lot more than that. Most of which you wouldn't find in a normal Haskell tutorial/article
