I wonder what would be the defense to apple if they decided to scan the images on your desktop / laptop as well. Is there a limit to how intrusive tech companies can get?

At this rate Apple is no better than Xiaomi or Huawei: using forced labor to make their phones; produce phones in China; biggest market is China; checking your phone for violated content. Maybe time to switch to Xiaomi, it is 3x cheaper and better tech.

We also saw HN shadow banning entire IP CIDR blocks because they didn’t like argument against fleeting CDC guidance that was put forth or the Chinese lab origin theory in 2020.
You can’t register from these CIDR blocks. If you had an account before the comments would just end up in a black hole.

I feel like there should be some process where you have to put a real website at the domain name in a certain time period or you lose it. And I mean a real website not those godaddy placeholders. It’s just another rent seeking scam like we get in real estate without something like that.
