Fi Fi Lee also recently founded a new AI startup called World Labs, which focus on creating AI world models with spatial intelligence to understand and interact with the 3D world, unlike current LLM AI that primarily processes 2D images and text. Almost exactly the same focus as Yann LeCun's new venture stated in the parent article.

I recently started studying metal, so I was watching their metal choices with a bit of curiosity.

Apple switched iPhone 17 Pro from Titanium (used in earlier versions) to aerospace-grade Aluminium for Superior Heat Dissipation.

But for the iPhone Air, they are using Titanium because it's lightweight, strong, and durable.

Aluminum is definitely a softer metal, so using aerospace-grade aluminum makes sense. So, is Titanium not a good thermal conductor? If it is not, then why is it used in the iPhone Air?

Sorry! Their choice is not clear to me. Can someone throw light on it?

Since iPhone Air is thinner, it needs to use titanium for the increased rigidity to avoid another iPhone 6-eqsue 'bendgate' at the risk of worse heat dissipation

I'm curious about breath holding and freediving: When you're depriving your body of oxygen for such a long time, do you not risk cells dying, in particular in your brain?

If not, how do we know it's not happening?

ktta · 7 months ago
It does happen-- which is why we're told to watch out for high CO2 levels in our living spaces and let fresh air in often

It's less than 7% of their total users. The US is not that big compared to the whole world.

You're missing several. Montenegro and Macedonia are definitely available, and I think also Panama.

> Might as well apply for an EBx at the outset instead of fiddling with an E-2 visa.

EB-5 has pre-country quotas, and for some countries the wait can be quite long (for China it's around 10 years). It also is veeerrrryyyyyy slow, even with the initial form processing taking _years_.

ktta · a year ago
You're right on North Macedonia (which again needs $200k, so terrible value for the $ hence the low takers) but wrong on others. Montenegro suspended its CBI program and Panama never had one, only a residence visa which then you use to naturalize after 5 years (plus it technically doesn't permit dual citizenship although enforcement seems non-existent)

For EB-5, China and India have a waitlist but that's only in the 'unreserved' category. There are new EB-5 categories now that both reduce the investment amount required and processing can be done in a couple months now. If one really wants to immigrate and has the money, EB-5 is still the best choice by far.

You can first get an investor-based citizenship in one of the countries that have signed the tax treaty with the US.

It'll cost you about $50-100k extra.

ktta · a year ago
Only CBI countries on that list are Grenada (200k+) & Turkey (400k), and USCIS put out a rule specifically for that situation, with additional requirements. From: https://www.uscis.gov/working-in-the-united-states/temporary...

> In addition, for those individuals who obtained treaty country nationality through a financial investment, USCIS may require additional documentation to show that the applicant has been domiciled in the treaty country indicated in the application for a continuous period of at least 3 years at any point before applying for E-1 or E-2 classification.

Plus E-2 visa is a non-immigrant visa, so it doesn't give you any kind of special pathway to green card. Might as well apply for an EBx at the outset instead of fiddling with an E-2 visa.

The Internet Archive has roughly the same problem with the internet as space travel has with space, there's just so unimaginably much of it. You'd think you have some kind of a grasp of how much of it there is but it isn't anywhere close to tangible.
ktta · 2 years ago
I don't think so. Most of the web is behind a login and/or unlinkable. So you're left with 'open web'. This part is much smaller. So not impossible to archive a meaningful part of it, pretty tangible, especially the useful parts.

Is Gemini Ultra significantly better than Bard?

Tried Bard a couple of times recently and was not very impressed tbh. Seemed to forget the context of the conversation very often. Like I had to repeat again and again to not show external links with previews and not give explanations to every little thing.

ktta · 2 years ago
Absolutely. Bard felt worse than GPT-3.5 in some aspects. Gemini Ultra looks to be on par with GPT-4 and better than GPT-4 atleast when it comes to speed, which isn't trivial when expecting longform answers

Hopefully this isn’t the case for others, but after paying to upgrade my Google One subscription, I landed at a 404 at https://gemini.google.com/u/2/ (because my /u/0/ is one of my Google Workspace accounts). Curious to try it when it works.

It’s interesting to note that it’s listed as applying to Gmail, Docs, etc., so this sounds like an account-wide update to Advanced.

ktta · 2 years ago
Landed at a 404 as well, but my /u/0/ is not a Google Workspace accounts. I'm in EU at the moment but with a US billing address. While the upgrade succeeded, I'm only seeing a 404 after
