Here's the copy they used on that checkbox:

  Make this chat discoverable
Allows it to be shown in web searches
"Discoverable" is insider jargon.

What does "web search" mean? Is that about whether I should be able to search for my chats in the app in the future?

That language may seem obvious to those of us with a deep level of technical literacy - the denizens of Hacker News for example - but ChatGPT has over a billion users now.

Try asking the less technical people in your life to describe the difference between a web site and an app, or what a URL is, or get them to describe what "web search" means and name some products in that category. You may be unpleasantly surprised.

Meta AI gave people a "share" option with several levels of click though required to share a post and it was a fiasco: https://futurism.com/meta-ai-embarassing

Suggested alternative: “Public see chat. Public find chat. No privacy. All will see!”

No Claude Code needed for that! Just hang around r/unixporn and you'll collect enough scripts and tips to realize that mainstream OS have pushed computers from a useful tool to a consumerism toy.

That's like saying "you don't need a car, just hang around this bicycle shop long enough and you'll realize you can exercise your way around the town!"

Off the top of your head, could you describe a good/great ml ops infra setup? I've been reading what I can about state of the art ml ops after not being in the space for a few years and metaflow comes up a lot.

Nothing touches https://windmill.dev. There are some rare instances where you still may want Airflow, but even so, windmill and airflow complement each other well. If you need notebooks, I recommend https://docs.marimo.io/

One feature I would love to have is the ability to switch the model used for a message using a shorthand like #sonnet. Often, I don't want or need opus but I don't want to engage in a 3 step process where I need to:

1. switch models using /model 2. message 3. switch back to opus using /model

Help me help you (manage usage) by allowing me to submit something like "let's commit and push our changes to github #sonnet". Tasks like these rarely need opus-level intelligence and it comes up all the time.

Correct but we are never fungible. That’s the trick for a reliable career.

I’ve survived every single layoff season since 1995.

Ironically, Claude Code has me working in lower-level languages with more low-level tools than ever before, simply because of how powerful it is, particularly as a terminal tool. I've always been more of a GUI person, but now the editor I use most often is Helix.

If I've atrophied in certain aspects of my thinking, I honestly think I've more than made up for it in learning how to engineer the context and requirements for Claude Code more effectively and to quickly dive in to fix things without taking my hands off the keyboard and leaving the terminal.

I read the last election and other signals as the idea that there's way more unspoken diversity of thought in peoples minds than what people feel safe to say. Secretly lots of top talent probably doesn't care or even aligns with elon but chooses to say so at most with their actions in the form of being ok working for him.

Diversity of thought is a nice way to put it

I think the reason why people (correctly) point out that Kubernetes is complicated is because most people do not need a distributed system. People reach for k8s because it's trendy, but in truth a lot of users would be better off with a VM that gets configured with Chef/etc and just runs your software the old fashioned way.

Very! We had quite a few people do this at a hackathon we hosted this past weekend.

That's fantastic to hear. Did they configure django to use sqlalchemy as the ORM or were they able to make it work with django's?

Super interesting idea. How feasible would it be to integrate this with Django?

My heart just broke to hear this. Although I honestly don't read the thinking output very often. But I had been cheekily copy-n-pasting the info for my own records.

I agree, but there's always Deepseek. They're publishing and open-sourcing more than anyone these days.
