> Electromagnetic Radiation: HHS in partnership with other Departments and federal agencies will undertake a study on electromagnetic radiation and health research to identify gaps in knowledge, including on new technologies to ensure safety and efficacy.

This is absolutely fine by me. There is nothing hyperbolic about the statement and it's quite literally just a research request. How did it got turned into this headline?

Instead of using a dodgy package manager, install `nix` and use `nix run`. Get access to the largest collection of packages, and lean on a highly principled and secure baseline rather than… whatever this is. Easy to install on Mac, Linux, or WSL: https://github.com/DeterminateSystems/nix-installer?tab=read...

I was going to comment how nix run still has to resolve the dependencies and the build, but you’re indeed correct, it’s way better than whatever this is supposed to solve.

Is there a crowd-sourced sentiment score for models? I know all these scores are juiced like crazy. I stopped taking them at face value months ago. What I want to know is if other folks out there actually use them or if they are unreliable.

Having been acquired by Google, there is always a leeway for the execs to take the employees with them. Google is a weak negotiator when they NEED something.

On the other hand, I can imagine the execs taking Google golden handcuffs while trying to close the Cognition deal so the employees are made whole or maybe even on better terms than if they all went to Google.

There are numerous guides for all levels of Baba Is You available. I think it's likely that any modern LLM has them as part of its training dataset. That severely degrades this as a test for complex solution capabilities.

Still, its interesting to see the challenges with dynamic rules (like "Key is Stop") that change where are you able to move etc.

End of an era, but the writing was on the wall.

I have fond memories of using skype to contact my friends and family circa-2011 when I was working for Nokia in Finland.

Ironically, microsoft killed nokia the same way microsoft killed skype, an acquisition and then strangulation.

if nothing else, it’s at least two times the european tech sector was actively harmed by US tech giants… which isn’t much, but weird that it happened twice.

> actively harmed by US tech giants

Both Nokia and Skype went under due to usual European leadership stagnation and comfort before getting bought. Thankfully both sales funneled enough funds into EU to bootstrap a startup culture here.

We’ve already seen EU courts saying Subway bread couldn’t be called bread and listed it as cake because of the sugar. At some point one has to hope moments of clarity will break out on this side of the pond too
klohto · 8 months ago
Actually, that's not correct. The controversy you might be thinking of was about Subway's bread in Ireland, where in 2020 the Supreme Court ruled that Subway's bread couldn't be legally classified as "bread" for tax purposes because it contained about 5 times more sugar than allowed under Irish law - around 10% of the flour's weight, not 10% of the total bread composition.

The Irish law stated that for bread to be considered a "staple food" (and thus qualify for tax exemption), the sugar content couldn't exceed 2% of the flour's weight. This is different from saying the bread is 10% sugar overall.

The actual sugar content in Subway bread varies, but it's typically around 5-6 grams of sugar per half a bread. That’s higher than traditional bread but lower than many other commercial ones.
