Not sure about availability around the world, but I would say Merkur: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merkur_(toy)

Fun fact: first line for creating contact lenses was build using this system.

Here seems to be a catalog of their current sets: https://indd.adobe.com/view/1881b5e5-34ee-4e7c-8b19-2f25b314...

They have en e-shop (although quite poorly translated) and it looks like they are shipping within EU to US and to some other countries: https://eshop.merkurtoys.cz/

(I am not affiliated just used to like these things as a kid)

Now if they can make the Search work inside directories like it was until Windows XP. They somehow broke it in Vista and never fixed it until now.

Just use Everything (https://www.voidtools.com/), so much better than Windows Search.

It reads like someone who doesn't understand the technology.
kk_cz · 3 years ago
yes, but soon there will be many people who don't understand the technology happily using new shiny tools built on top of it.

Knowing how the technology works won't be of any help if someone uses a false ChatGPT generated statement about you as a fact that can have real-life consequences.

I usually try to refrain from posting negative comments, but start of that product video was a bit annoying to watch. Are you trying to showcase your product or to make an animation fitting a cool song you just found? (Maybe it is intentional, it made me post this comment after all :).

I am missing something, right? His page does not have any fortune files. The links just point to docs. Is this just a page of links to manpages of fortunes? It literally says: "Here you can find the fortune files from various operating systems." Thought that meant there would at least be links to the locations of the text databases.

I still use fortune on a lot of workstations. It usually takes the students a while before they even realize that when they login a short fortune was given (when they have to ssh into a box for example).

right.

Try clicking links in the menu. Although I admit that link labeled "fortune files" leading to a definition of what fortune files are rather than to the fortune files themselves is a bit misleading.

This! So much this!

What's the point of having a taskbar that only groups by app...This has been one of the major pain points of me using Mac OS and it is immensely sad that Windows 11 has also taken this approach. At least some Linux DEs still let me keep my app windows ungrouped...

The winner of the bet does not profit personally, so it's not really a bet. They use the term "bet" because it's easy for people to understand. And it makes it more interesting than alternatives like "prediction & rebuttal".

Long Bets and the Long Now Foundation try to get people thinking about the future so we can make it better.

Even if it is just used as a figure of speech: "I bet that millions will die in next 4 years" crosses the line for me. But I guess it's just me.

I try to understand "intellectual curiosity" here but I just find it very off-putting to bet on whether millions will die, no matter how sound the arguments of both sides might be.

No, you got code clarity wrong. Code clarity in ABAP means using System Hungarian Notation and it baffles me that almost every ABAP programmer I talk to think it's not redudant to use a command such as READ TABLE on a variable called GT_VBAK(for non-abapers, G for global variable, T for table).

The only advantage that I see is that for the most part, every program will look almost the same regarding standard SAP tables.

FYI, this: https://github.com/SAP/styleguides/blob/master/clean-abap/Cl... exists and is slowly being adopted for new code. But everything takes time.

America has made a lot of mistakes with its foreign policy, but it's disingenuous to act like the US has ever done anything like tiananmen square to it's own people in the modern era. There is absolutely a difference between how the United States responds to dissent, and how repressive regimes do
