We've got a Leicester here in Massachusetts which is also pronounced 'Lester'. It is just West of Worcester, which is pronounced 'Wuster'. But they become 'Lestah' and 'Wustah' with a Boston accent.

In the UK instead of “booster shot” they say “borcester shot”.

In some sense yojijukugo are the original memes, in that they can be riffed off for humorous purposes. For example, the Japanese idiom for "the strong devour the weak" is 弱肉強食 jakuniku kyuushoku (the meat of the weak is the food of the strong), but you can instead say 焼肉定食 yakuniku teishoku (lit. grilled meat set meal) for laughs, and rakugo comedian Jakusaburo Katsura released an album called 雀肉共食 jakuniku kyuushoku (same reading, but meaning "let's eat sparrow meat together" and referring to his own name).

強 and 共 are read kyou, not kyuu

Your timing could not be better. Just this morning I was thinking how I'm set on the kanji front (with Anki) but I could really use a system for learning more vocab and grammar at an advanced level.

Then this came along. Excited to have a go!

It seems to me that Amazons long term strategy is to become a "Conglomerate of Brands", leveraging the profits from one business unit to buy out unrelated business. This sort of acquisition doesn't, as far as I can see, advance a particular core business unit (I'm aware Amazon have toyed with games publishing, but its not exactly a core business unit).

I suppose it makes sense, investors want their investment to be safe, by diversifying through acquisition they can give that to shareholders.

For the other rumoured purchasers, Disney and Apple, would have a direct affect on their business strategy. Disney as a media asset business, and Apple though the potential to expand their Gaming strategy on their own platforms.

Wild guess, but it could be that Amazon’s strategy involves Twitch somehow.

The about page says: “English-only, global and public forum that has nothing in common with ancient and untrustworthy social networks.”

So they filter out any non-English text?

I also wonder what they mean with “untrustworthy” and how, specifically, this is and will remain different.

> English-only, global (…)

That must be a record for quickest contradiction.

Unless by “global” they mean… no, I’m stumped.
