Sounds more like SV technologist rulers are trying to conolise the world. Europe is less potent and threatening than even Elon at this point of time.

Europe does tax its people a lot more. So the argument doesn't make sense.
kaveh_h · 17 days ago
Taxes which are used wisely for the people’s benefit is not a wasteful thing. That was the point original commentator made.

Your reasoning is that taxation is always bad and the more you pay the worst, a very American view which I can understand given how badly US government spends money in this regard.

I mean, is there really any reason to continue offering the service in Europe? I highly doubt the revenue is really worth the trouble.

It’s not for profit. Elon put 45 billion dollars into it as a vehicle to influence even more people of the world particularly politicians.

His open stance and clear support or rebuke of various political figures and parties around the world is a clear indication of this.

What does it even mean?

Probably that before it was given system instructions on how to do compaction and now the compaction is learned by the model making it a native ability of the model without any extra instruction used in the prompt.

Some people do these type of contribution or charity work not just to do some good but also to feel some autonomy and mastery in a world were much of the regular top down driven drudgery work does not provide much of that feeling. These people are canaries in the coal mine. I expect more people feel a loss of purpose and rise of anxiety and depression in the world.

Nice post, really relatable. It also feels like a management miss. If someone spends years modernizing and only finds out later it “doesn’t count,” that should have been clarified early on.

Tech debt work absolutely adds value, it just rarely gets measured or recognized. Maybe that is one reason so many companies struggle over time, they keep skipping payments on their tech debt interest.

This. I think people in general misunderstand the allure of power and the means to maintain it. Power centers in US are drooling at the opportunity to do what China has done in terms of controlling discourse and language. The interesting thing is that they all assume that this particular measure of control would never be turned against them.

edit: Adjusted weapon to 'measure of control'. I accept people are a little too happy to overreact lately.

In a democracy where the politicians change every 4-8 years this is receipt for disaster. The next administration will undo action taken by the previous one. In effect destroying any momentum or progress for achieving anything. For China and Russia this is not a problem because of the totalitarian state.

> People are the same everywhere

That is absolutely not true. People aren't the same even in adjacent neighborhoods sometimes. Some create great environments, some create hells on earth.

Source: I lived in 3 different countries + an isolated island.

But you don't even need my biased opinion on the matter. We have cultures that throw gay people off the roofs, and cultures that celebrate them.

Distribution of Culture is way different now that internet enables virtual cultures to exist which have less physical barrier.

When +10-15% of work force is laid off it’s not due to boss key, but idiot bosses who don’t think ahead.

But on the other side Boss key do happen due to demoralized workers realize they are working for idiot bosses making bad decisions or being shitty leaders.
