This is disgusting behavior from SpaceX. It must be even worse for the majority of older people who are more likely to have well established families and "only" want to spend 40 hours of their lives a week working.

The fact they had an expert working 10 hours a day 7 days a week apparently was not enough. They have to be in their twenties to get the real "techbro" badge.

I have a strong belief that technical skills aren't as important as the ability to be a suck-up in most mega-corps. You can easily buy a suck-up offering graduates a six-figure salary. It's like VPs are building their own personal armies not to get ousted by the other feudal lords.

They are. The larger your reporting section the more important you are. Importance is described through resource allocation.

Meditations by Marcus Aurelius

The private thoughts of a person with terrible power. An emperor who could put to death anyone he chose. Create the law by speaking it. Command any one to his bed if the mood took him. These pages are filled with Aurelius’ private struggles to be a good man, despite the frustrations of the world.

His words helped me become a more social thinker.

Totally agree. But the language and wording structure is a slog to get through.

Bankruptcy is a deal with the court on restructuring or insolvency. Both parties have to agree. They will simply not take the deal if the risk is high for them.

This has been researched and found impractical. First you have power conversions solar > electric > microwave > electric. Then the microwave transmission receiver has to grow at the square of the distance. Receivers need to be huge on the order of kilometers. Also to be stationary to the ground the satellites need to be in geo orbit making the distance huge.

What am I missing?

TL;DR rising labor costs and regulation

Each build is unique and requires way too much overhead. The new generation of preapproved factory assembled SMR's are the future.

I wrote a scraper for various dating websites that would automatically generate activity on my behalf according to several empirical criteria (very simple stuff, no ML!), so that I could minimize the amount of time spent manually fishing.

It worked amazingly well, it got me hundreds (yes, 100+) of dates, incredible dating stories and a lifetime of memories, all in a semi-automated way without me requiring to “swipe right” or similar. As a matter of fact, my current girlfriend (of 5 years) was found through the software. She knows it and laughs about it.

Clearly the software didn’t do anything magical, I would have likely gotten the same results had I spent the time to individually message and interact with the 100s of women the software did in a semi-automated way, but it was really nice to save my time.

One day I should write a blog post.

6 years sober here. Most of the advice so far wouldn't have been much help when I first stopped drinking.

It's honestly hard, and the first year or two won't be great. Boardgames and cafes are boring as fuck compared to getting drunk. Sure, rafting and cycling and other examples might fill up a Sunday afternoon, but they don't work for Friday night.

Over time you adjust. I've made a few friends that don't drink. I have others that I can go out with and they don't mind me not drinking.

At some point you realize that you won't be having as much fun as getting drunk. But your life will be better in other aspects, and that will make it worth it.

You are borrowing joy. It sure is hard not to do it though.

This is a pretty typical growth pattern. Industrial zone establishes and city is set far away in a safe area. City expands and resident need cheap housing. The cheap housing is built near the industrial zone as that is how economic forces work. People then see this and say they built industrial next to the poor people when the opposite occurred. Now the industry is giving cancer to poor people and needs to be punished. Who is right and who is wrong?
