jsbisviewtiful commented on Tesla insiders have sold more than 50% of their shares in the last year   electrek.co/2025/08/18/te... · Posted by u/MilnerRoute

Tesla has been over-bought for years and everyone knows it, but as Keynes once said: the market can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent. My strategy has just been to stay away. TSLA could blow up in the next 6 months, or it could go up for the next 6 years. To me, at least, it's not worth f'ing around and finding out, especially when the market as a whole is doing so well.

> especially when the market as a whole is doing so well.

… is it? There was some news maybe within the last month saying only the top 15 or so of s&p companies were the only companies showing healthy growth and everything else below that has barely any growth, is losing value or is stagnant.

Are we talking about the same Garmin?

I have an Instinct 2 that cost me under $200 new, goes 2+ weeks between charges, and handles all activities I throw at it quite well.

I agree: their launching of a subscription service is disappointing, because (1) it was wonderful having a no-recurring-cost ecosystem before, and (2) presumably that's where they'll be investing their product dollars. But, it's not required, and to date, it's not particularly high value.

I looked at the Instinct 3 with Solar because I really wanted the best battery life out there, only to find out Garmin neglected to include topo maps (I wanted a device for hiking and backpacking so that's disappointing) in the Instinct 3 and despite being $400+ the casing is plastic. Odd choices for that price. I feel like the Garmin interfaces are also just... not great. Way too busy for such a small screen. The Coros watch face I'm using right now includes: time, date, day, elevation, steps, calories burned, heart rate and battery level all on a simple, uncrowded and easy to read b&w face... It's called Particular but I can't find a screen shot of it. It's leagues easier to read than what I've seen of Garmin and Apple (which for some reason still has their faces so locked down it's restrictive).

What is the use-case now in 2025 for an e-ink watch? I have a Garmin Epix pro gen 2 which gets about a month of battery life and has a gorgeous AMOLED, has profiles for pretty much every sport ever invented, incredibly accurate GPS tracking, all day HR-tracking, ECG etc.

I understand it's about 4x the price, but there's also lower-end Garmin's that are about 2x the price with the same screen, slightly less features and similar battery life

Garmins are incredibly expensive and not everyone wants a fitness tracker. Garmin's UX is also very disjointed between devices for how expensive they are. Plus, battery life tends to be garbage for smartwatches. I just sold my Apple Watch for a Coros because I was tired of trading battery life for features I didn't want/use and Garmins also require yet another subscription for some features. As someone who just spent the last month deciding on a new fitness wearable, much of the market is full of bloated devices that don't do everything right, but instead do a handful of things right with a laundry list of caveats.

There's still a strong market for dumb watches too, so a long-lasting "smart" device that does some things but not as much as an Apple Watch, Garmin, Coros, etc while still serving as a general information displaying wearable sounded enticing. Unfortunately Apple's lockdown of the iPhone for the previous Pebbles (which I think might still be a thing) and my need for fitness tracking are what prevented me from buying a Pebble.

I'd be curious to see a breakdown of this data by location/market and with sales data instead of a poll. I have a friend who works in the alcohol distribution industry and he's refuted these kinds of claims multiple times, but he also lives in a midwest state where there's not much to do but eat and drink so perhaps it's all relative.

> The global pandemic will tank the stock market

> War in Ukraine will tank the stock market

> High interest rates will tank the stock market

> Tariffs will tank the stock market

> IA will tank the stock market <- We are here

All those statements made sense to me at the time. And I have no doubt that one of these days, someone will make a correct prediction. But who the hell know what and when.

Diversify, be reasonable and be prepared for it to happen someday. But freaking out with any new prediction of doom is not the winning strategy.

There was an article I saw this morning saying only the very top of the S&P 500 are the stocks showing substantive growth in recent years, companies below that have been relatively slow to show growth. Additionally, since the pandemic and Ukraine war started global cost of goods have been rapidly increasing, much faster than they should be. Now with AI, the market in the US is losing a lot of jobs - both entry level and above. The latest US job numbers were so terrible Trump fired someone to try and cover it up.

I'm not sure what else needs to happen to show the economy has been doing poorly for all but the richest segments. The return of a blatant and severe caste system and mass starvation?

If your job is to issue marriage licenses and you don’t want to, at what point is that on YOU to make adjustments?

I do not see how her personal objection should have any impact to other people’s lives. She is issuing marriage licenses and FOR the state, not her personal endorsement.

I sure didn’t care about or even know who issued my marriage license and it sure wasn’t their job to pass judgment.

If allowed couldn’t just anyone take state jobs and claim “religious objection, I won’t do it, all you citizens can’t have whatever it is I do”?

Just absurd.

jsbisviewtiful · 12 days ago
People who have "religious objections" to doing their society provided job need to go live on a farm and mind their own business, like the Amish do. The rest of us are trying to move forward, not backward at the whim of some random hate-fueled individuals and or groups.

jsbisviewtiful commented on Lithium compound can reverse Alzheimer’s in mice: study   hms.harvard.edu/news/coul... · Posted by u/highfrequency

Lithium orotate is available over the counter. People could try it today.

> Since lithium has not yet been shown to be safe or effective in protecting against neurodegeneration in humans, Yankner emphasizes that people should not take lithium compounds on their own

I reject this kind of blind safetyism. A cursory search suggests that lithium orotate has been used for decades, and the article suggests that "profound effects" were seen at an "exquisitely low dose" which should be safe. They're going to need a much better explanation of why people shouldn't try it.

jsbisviewtiful · 17 days ago
> I reject this kind of blind safetyism.

You said you searched to learn more about lithium, but somehow missed that it's highly recommended to be administered by doctors due to side effects after long term use. Anything that damages your kidneys or thyroids can kill you, so calling it "blind safetyism" is silly.

I’m really feeling this recently. So many folks around me talking up AI because it googled something for them or functions as their personal “yes man/ma’am”.
