Fellow solo dev here. I am happy for you that you saw this through.

I can not imagine spending so much time for so little return though. How many hours do you think you put into this altogether (not just including coding?)

It looks to me like if you were to do the math, you'd find that you were probably working for wages so low they'd be illegal.

It's really hard to estimate the amount of time. Even spending 40hr on it wouldn't be worth it from a purely financial perspective even if you ignore ads and other costs, and I spent many times that in terms of time.

But at the same time, doing this helped me reach over $6k MRR this year. Could I have gotten out of the tar pit faster? Definitely.

Very cool. You built it, shipped it, and sold it.

At first I thought this might be a Nano SaaS, but without a clear definition, I’m now guessing that would be something like one tenth of the numbers you mentioned. So “micro” seems right.

If the term or threshold does not exist, let’s define it as such.

I think micro-SaaS is starting to catch on https://www.google.com/search?q=micro-saas

For https://poach.vc/ and https://data.poach.vc/ I just emailed and LinkedIn DM-ed a ton of people. Since the newsletter features founders and investors, I also tag them each issue on Twitter, which is a small but evergreen source of exposure.

So a “typical” ETF costs me about 0.15% year, or around $150 for every $100k I have invested. While $12 per year would certainly save some money, it’s coffee money vs. life savings money. I think you’re going to have a hard time convincing me to move from offerings from companies like Barclays, Schwab, or Vanguard. Plus, zero fees doesn’t save me any money unless you can stay within 0.15% of the big index funds you’re going to be compared too. If you’re selling to harvest tax losses, I’ll bet there are some deviations at the fractions of a percent level that might erase all my savings.

Move fast and break things works great for computer startups, but if you want me to move my life savings over I need more confidence that you’re going to be around in 40 years and still have my accounts intact. And if I’m not bringing my life savings over, then it’s not worth the effort, because investments at the $10k level don’t really save me money.

Good luck finding early adopters who have money to throw at investment schemes.

Yeah, it's a really tough sell.

I also live in SF and made an iOS app (A Better Ride) to solve this exact problem. Just shows you departure times of transit for stops around you. The goal is to make transit less stressful by making it predictable and explorable. It’s just a passion project I work on in my free time with zero monetization

That's really great! So many nice touches, like how it shows the side of the street and the overall direction of transit!

Using the “for you” tab is the only way to use twitter these days. Their suggest algo is complete garbage. I spent a couple days trying various ways to train it and still I got was complete garbage, so I accepted reality that twitter doesn’t really have an algo for the feed, just a firehouse of crazy people and engagement trolls

You mean the "following" tab, right?
