No. It's the only feature that will never work sadly. But everything else is OK.

That and satellite communication.

You have to download Google Maps in the first place- my (older teen and adult) kids don’t even have an entry point for Google, they just use Apple’s built in apps + ChatGPT.

Even Google Search relentlessly nags you to download the Google Search app.

Coming from a few years of lots of different therapists for stuff in my family...

Replace? Probably not.

Challenge? 100%.

The variance in therapist quality is egregious, and should be discussed more, especially in this current age of "MEN SHOULD JUST GO TO THERAPY."

As a therapist, I very much agree with the last sentence.

I am not sure which Meta apps open ports, but e.g. Samsung phones come with a bunch of Meta apps pre-shipped. IIRC just removing the Facebook app is is not enough, there is another service installed that is not visible as an app (com.facebook.services etc.), which you can only uninstall from the data partition with something like ADB/UAD.

Or buy an iPhone or a Pixel.

The Pixel "Private Space" feature should prevent Meta apps from running in the background. It also prevents you from getting notifications.

I'm not super familiar with this space, or laws where Waymo is active, what do you mean Google/Waymo don't buy insurance for their vehicles?

Is having insurance not legally required? Do they just pay out when there's an accident where they injure someone?

jmm5 · 4 months ago
Large companies with fleets of vehicles often self-insure.

Are they allowed to, or would Wikipedia lawyers strike it for "original research" or something? From what I've seen and heard they don't even allow people to correct their own birth date unless they get some third party newspaper to print it first.
jmm5 · 6 months ago
Yes, and they even let you email them in to make it easier.

Apple has become a behemoth in chip design. I'm guessing Qualcomm won't be taxing them anymore since they're making their own modems

Qualcomm still owns the patents.

Oh man, I got excited to use this with our kids, but then saw that it requires a " mobile device management (MDM) solution and Managed Apple IDs." I hope they consider the family use case in the future.
jmm5 · a year ago
They want you to buy a separate device for each family member.

I use Firefox as my main browser. I love Firefox and I want it to succeed.

However... a person who uses Firefox as their primary browser must generally still keep Chrome installed. A person who uses Chrome as their primary browser has no need to keep Firefox installed.

Firefox should endeavor to fix that.

First, Firefox should honor age-old tradition, swallow its pride, and spoof 99% of the Chrome user agent string. That's how upstart web browsers have fought against sites breaking things for them for decades.

Second, Firefox should endeavor to be as compatible as possible with Chrome with regard to the DOM and JS, being sneaky if it has to. I think O365 webmail is the first good place to start, since it's widely deployed. USG websites as well, like DFAS MyPay or Marine A-PES do not work well on it. Obviously, it's difficult for Firefox devs to test on these sites, but that's all the more reason to take bug reports seriously.

MS Office webmail works well for me in Firefox under Ubuntu.
