>WCET ("worst case execution time") is an important consideration: Operations should take a fixed amount of time and the produced machine code should be predictable.

Good luck. Give the avionics guys a call if you solve this at the language level.

Did you really go through the trouble of creating an account just to spit trash? Damn!

This is not good. One major outage? Something exceptional. Several outages in a short time? As someone thats worked in operations, I have empathy; there are so many “temp havks” that are put in place for incidents. but the rest of the world won’t… they’re gonna suffer a massive reputation loss if this goes on as long as the last one.
jcmfernandes · 13 days ago
Absolutely. I wouldn’t be surprised if they turned the heat up a little after the last incident. The result? Even more incidents.

IMHO, the main advantage of github is that it is an ecosystem. This is a well-thought-out Swiss knife: a pioneering (but no longer new) PR system, convenient issues, as well as a well-formed CI system with many developed actions and free runners. In addition, it is best to use code navigation simply in a web browser. You write code, and almost everything works effortlessly. Having a sponsorship system is also great, you don't have to search for external donation platforms and post weird links in your profile/repository.

All in one, that's why developers like it so much. The obsession with AI makes me nervous, but the advantages still outweigh, as for me, the average developer. For now.

Man :| no. I genuinely understand the convenience of using Actions, but it's a horrible product.

The tone is off. Cloudflare shared a post-mortem on the same day as the incident. It's unreasonable to throw a "I wish technical organisations would be more thorough in investigating accidents".

With that said, I would also like to know how it took them ~2 hours to see the error. That's a long, long time.

> have a lot of respect for Rich, but he wasn't a maintainer.

LMAO

No. He's one of the few people on the planet that could lay claim to it's copyright. He also gave the insight that Rubygems has literally ALWAYS been a part of RubyCentral.

jcmfernandes · 2 months ago
Copyright? WTF are you talking about? Who's talking about copyright? Did or didn't RC perform a hostile takeover of the repos?

Why in the everloving cosmic fuck did he not tell them? In a great many circumstances what he did is a crime. Nobody's coming after him on this but if this was me I would paper the everloving fuck out of what I did so there wasn't even a possibility that the owner of the account had any uncertainty as to what happened.

I don't know what happened with "the repos", is why I haven't offered an opinion about it. I have a professional interest in stories about people gaining unauthorized access to accounts. I assure you, the law doesn't weigh one party's transgression against the other the way you suggest it should.

jcmfernandes · 2 months ago
I find your obsession over Andre's fault and disdain towards the stealing of the repos by RC amusing.

And you know what? I think you're right! What Andre did could constitute a crime. Any serious organization would lawyer up and go after him... right? RIGHT?
