It was miraculous what you could do with GEOS on the Commodore 64. I did a lot of school projects, such as papers and newsletters. With lots of fonts and graphics.

I keep my fingers crossed for the revival of the StarCraft franchise. I grew up with the game, and it's kinda sad to see the current state of SC2: old bugs, new bugs, community trying to take over the processes but having a very bumpy ride, opaque decision making (de-facto spokespersons/community figures under muddy NDAs), and unfortunately all our 2010 fears (no local/LAN play!) coming true, when server outages are hitting during in-person tournaments.

SC2 is still the best RTS there is. Immortal, Stormgate, and ZeroSpace are all showing great promise, but none of these is even at the public alpha stage. So SC2, with all of its problems, it is.

I rediscovered Brood War during Covid (free to play). 99% of matchups I lost. But there was one 4+ hour 1v1 marathon on a huge map. Lost that one too but what an incredible game. So many comebacks on both sides. So close. Matching skills is key to a GG.

My bet is on their own fab(s) at some near-future point. They are one of the few who can afford the infrastructure (buildings/equipment) and talent, and they totally rely on a supply chain that is currently dubious, and has the real potential to get a lot worse. And it would fit into all current and likely all future projects Apple does and would likely do since they have proven they are more than capable of designing their own chips.

Adding: 0.0.0.0 http://ocsp.apple.com to /private/etc/hosts solves it.

Can't believe Big Sur is somehow affecting my Mohave Mac! Yikes!

Perhaps it's a fast turn-around time thing? You want to hijack capitalize on news cycle with an article that gets clicks ... you need an eye grabbing graphic within hours. This style is the path of lease resistance.

One of the problems with hacking the hashtag (#) in the URL is that this fragment identifier is supposed to be used to identify a portion of the document. As such unexpected things can happen when you try to exploit the hash tag for other purposes.

For example, with older of versions of Microsoft Office you cannot use a pound character in a hyperlink:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/202261/you-cannot-u...

Some email applications may unexpectedly strip the tag, attempting to be smart about handling it in the RFC 3986 sense (not anticipating this use-case at all). When the data appended to the # is a dependency to view the link, it can more easily render the link unusable.

But Bitcoin won't solve deplatforming, because the existence of Bitcoin doesn't preclude a bank from deplatforming you.

Until Bitcoin is ubiquitous (doubtful this will occur in my life time) we are still vulnerable to deplatforming when we go to exchange btc for fiat.

I don't care how much longing I might have for the small town I grew up in, I will never go back, and will never consider moving back. It was a bigoted, closed-minded place growing up and it's still that way today. Rural America has very little to offer anyone except cheap housing, and cheap food. Despite the crime, high taxes, high cost of living, and the abundance of traffic, the city is safer.

Until you get older and realize that you could cash out and benefit from a change of pace.

Get a nice sized house, with money in the bank, grow a garden, listen to the quiet, cut your own lawn, and share the experience with other people, who like you, eventually migrated back to give that small town feel another chance, later in life.

And now that small town has an art gallery. A Starbucks. Some nice restaurants. And town councillors that like you, moved back from the city and have a desire to fix some of what you remember being broken.

Many of the small towns I remember growing up in that were bigoted close minded places, have gradually changed. Not all. But it's happening.
