LOL, my only tablet is an iPad Air 2 and still gets some updates, runs most apps and is in a very good condition. Battery isn’t what it used to be, but I can’t complain keeping in mind that my trusty iPad has served me well all this years and has paid off its investment. Nowadays Apple is not making hardware like it used to.

Apple is making better hardware than ever. Like your iPad, devices get at least 5 years of updates and will generally run faster every year. Like you said the biggest noticeable difference is in the battery, but this is obviously a much harder problem to solve.

Open to abuse & certainly not privacy friendly, but in a hypothetical world where governments can be trusted on that it seems very plausible that it could be a social plus.

i.e. You can probably spot trends like person X spends a huge amount of their pay on nappies and babyfood...probably could do with some additional social help.

Nordic countries probably come closest to said hypothetical but still seems kinda dicey

Governments can only be trusted when any given individual can be trusted. I understand that Norway’s current government is one of the most accountable and transparent in the world so the damage a given individual can do is limited, but that entails trusting all future governments.

Nah I believe it. I’m thinking of the people who switched their entire identity from Social Justice to Ukraine for about 5 minutes.

[opinion] I will eat my shoe in a tvshow if there's any evidence to confirm Whatsapp/Meta did this for privacy/moral reasons. They simply fear this would lead people to leaving Whatsapp and turn to alternative ways of private communication which would mean less users and thus revenue. [/opinion]

I think you overestimate the amount that the average person cares about their privacy.

Something like Kahn Academy (https://www.khanacademy.org/)?
init-as · 5 years ago
Khan Academy is great, but I mean for all resources on a subject. In other words, a place where people can post curations of resources, not actual content. So say I wanted to learn linear algebra it would point to Khan Academy for the basics part and then other places as well.

Is there a website that anyone knows of for these types of open-source curriculums? Feel like it would be nice to have a place where people could post these and you could reference them when you wanted to learn something in the correct order and with the best resources.

I work as a quant trader and come from a software engineering background. Why don't you apply for jobs as an analyst in sales and trading? After a couple years, get an MBA or MFE or even try a PhD and move into a more quantitative trading/research role.

I think quantitative finance would be perfect for you. I know I wouldn't be able to stand doing anything else. Pay is awesome, problems are incredibly interesting, and the work environment is exciting and fun.

For the trading jobs, would I need experience in trading particularly. Also, for these jobs in general do side projects and the like matter a lot (like they do for SWE)? Thanks sm btw!
