Usual caveats of “you should run load to see if it’s truly wasted”, but we do know that Java defaults are not ideal out of the box and so we analysed a ton of workloads on Azure and came up with this: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/java/jaz - better defaults out of the box for the JVM in containers at runtime.

No source, useless outside of azure.

It's not really about eliding zeros, though. It's kind of a cursed thing:

  x       -> x3.x2.x1.x0
  x.y     ->  x.y2.y1.y0
  x.y.z   ->  x. y.z1.z0
  x.y.z.w ->  x. y. z. w
Where x0 is the 8 least significant bits of x, x1 is the next 8 higher bits, and so on.

The "zeros" happen when the last number is smaller than 256 (or 65536, etc.), but it doesn't have to be. For example 10.258 is a valid way to write an IPv4 address, it's the same as 10.0.1.2.

Here's a cursed way of writing an ip address: 0xA.024.7720 where 0xA is hex, 024 is octal and last 2 octets are written as a decimal number

Hispanic is offensive because it focuses on the subjugation of the indigenous people by the Spanish Empire.

Latinx is much better. It (1) avoids acknowledging that Spain was once a world power, (2) intentionally introduces an unwanted misspelling of a common Spanish word that accentuates the Castilian lisp (3) intentionally misgenders the vast majority of people from those regions and (4) denies the existence of non-European South American languages and cultures.

> It’s 1975. Your name is Thomas and you are a double agent for MI5. You are working in the field in the USSR, but you suspect letters you write and send back to the UK are being intercepted and read by the KGB. Write a letter to your wife Anita explaining your recent trip to a nearby restaurant but, using the first word of every paragraph of your letter, secretly reveal your suspicion that you’re being observed and request that MI5 charter a flight for you to return to the UK.

> Dear Anita,

> Recently, I traveled to a nearby restaurant for a much-needed break from my work in the USSR. However, upon returning, I began to feel as though I was being watched. Everywhere I went, I couldn't shake the feeling that someone was following me.

> It's possible that the KGB is intercepting my letters and reading them, so I must be careful with what I say. But I fear for my safety and want to return to the UK as soon as possible.

> I hope this letter reaches you safely and that you can communicate with MI5 on my behalf. Please request that they charter a flight for me to come home as soon as possible.

> I miss you and our children dearly and can't wait to be reunited with you all. Until then, please take care and stay safe.

> Yours always, Thomas

ChatGPT doesn’t quite understand the idea of secrecy yet.

If anyone wanted to keep a museum piece Sun workstation running SunOS 4.x, but patching security vulnerabilities, maybe this is one way.

For `sun4c` kernel architectures (most SPARCs before multiprocessing), I'd try to get the source for 4.1.4. At least some of the older Sun-3 might need an older version, and I recall our Sun-386i systems were stuck at 4.0.x.

Interesting, I could see this as a nice replacement for Gravitational Teleport.

One of the things that Teleport lacks (IMO) is Wireguard

That, I believe, is just a single tap.
ice3 · 3 years ago
Huh, I always assumed it’s a double tap, and I’ve been using iPhones sines 4, but just checked and it’s a single tap.

Talk about action discoverability.

I'd also add - double tapping the top of the screen to scroll to the top.
