I often think about how cold our lifeforms on earth are, relative to temperatures of things in the universe. 0 Kelvin is theoretical lowest possible temp, quasars are apparently > 10 trillion Kelvin (10,000,000,000,000K), yet all life we know of is between what, 250K and 400K?

Well unless there's some ghost-like life form in a gas state, we sort of need the molecules to stay together to form life.

And yet, you perfectly understood what they meant, because words can have different meanings dependent on the context.

Luckily, GP made it abundantly clear he wasn’t talking about a beemer.

It was definitely not perfectly clear. I was very confused when I first read the comment.

If we were talking about laptops I would know M3 refers to the processor, but there's literally a car named "M3" that's been popular for nearly 40 years.

My problem with Tesla (besides Elon) is that you look at the corners being cut and can only think "Imagine how much better it would be if they hadn't built Cybertruck".

I have a 2018 M3 and was almost tempted by the redesign, until I saw how they butchered the steering wheel, and some of the worst customer support I've ever had to deal with.

Also stiffing customers on what should be warranty repairs, but because the suspension is a wear item they only provide free labor, all 2018 M3 have suspension problems.

Now they are all in on self driving robo-taxis that we all know are going to be far more problematic than Waymo.

Sir, M3 means something else in the car world
httpz commented on Nvidia’s $589B DeepSeek rout   finance.yahoo.com/news/as... · Posted by u/rcarmo

IMO this is less about DeepSeek and more that Nvidia is essentially a bubble/meme stock that is divorced from the reality of finance and business. People/institutions who bought on nothing but hype are now panic selling. DeepSeek provided the spark, but that's all that was needed, just like how a vague rumor is enough to cause bank runs.

Nvida has a P/E of 47. While it may be a bit high for a semiconductor company, it's definitely not a meme stock figure.

For those that missed it, this Engineer is in _high school_.

Byran, I have been a professional engineer longer than you have been alive, I can tell you right now that I have met very, very few people that would have the motivation, skill and sticktoitivness to pull this off.

I sometimes wonder how many talented engineers top colleges are rejecting because they were busy working on real engineering projects like this than academics and test scores.

Some of the side effects of semaglutide are just a result of eating less calories.

Without a control group who also ate the same amount of calories but without the drug, it's hard to know if the side effect were directly caused by semaglutide or just a result of being in a calorie deficit.

httpz commented on Nvidia to join Dow Jones Industrial Average, replacing Intel   cnbc.com/2024/11/01/nvidi... · Posted by u/koolba

Nobody should take Dow Jones Industrial Average seriously. It's only relevant because it's been around for 139 years. It only tracks arbitrarily selected 30 large companies and it's not even weighted by market cap.

It was made this way because 139 years ago we didn't have computers and someone had to manually calculate the average.

httpz commented on Why won't some people pay for news? (2022)   diaspora.glasswings.com/p... · Posted by u/dredmorbius

I see news as three parts: facts, opinions, and curation.

There are plenty of free and reputable news sources and paying doesn't seem to increase the credibility of the news.

So we're effectively paying for the opinion and curation. However, I don't feel the need to pay to read about a random journalists opinion nor the curation of a (possibly politically motivated) editor when I can read hundreds of people's opinions nicely curated by upvotes on sites like Reddit and Hacker News.

I have to admin, I spend far more time reading comments than the actual article.
