The issue is, American army did not see them anymore entering a war where American infantry needs to take out aerial threats. The army assumed future wars would be killing goat herders carrying AK-47s with drone strikes.

The idea was nobody would. E insane enough in the interconnected global economy to start to "real" war. And thus weapons production focused on anti-terrorism etc.

headass · 2 years ago
not exactly. near peer doctrine called for aerial dominance. only recently (last few years) has the US bought back SHORAD. manpads are seen as unnecessary because there’s bigger and better weapons systems for them

Every so often Google docs prompts me to install their plugin. At this point I don't even remember what issue it caused, I just remember that it was so infuriating and that I decided I never wanted to deal with it again.

google seem to be specialists at making people feel like that lol

I'm curious how much the M1 Ultra costs. It's such a massive single piece of glass I'd guess it's $1,200+. If that's the case it doesn't make sense to compare the M1 Ultra to $500 CPUs from Intel and AMD.

also all the other shit that’s on the chip ram etc.

Sort of unrelated, but I'm surprised aircraft need that spectrum. I'm not an expert, but my impression was that using lower frequency has lower speeds but longer range and less sensitive to interference. This seems better for the aircraft usecase.

The answer could be just that they were built using this spectrum which at the time seemed fine, and now that we want to use it for something else it's an issue. Curious if anyone knows more.

i mean if it’s for the radar altimeter you want it to be much quicker as it’s landing which is when it’s more prone to interference

Everything you hate about email login is what I hate about 2FA, as a user.
headass · 4 years ago
i mean it’s not much different it’s just email code/link vs an all generating a code but 2fa is unphishable as well

Tangentially related: This uses a HDMI-to-USB video capture device, which is great (I did not know they were that cheap and have ordered 2:]), but does anyone happen to know of a cheap VGA-to-USB capture device? I'm having a surprising amount of trouble turning one up, for all that I would expect them to be at least as easy to procure. (I'm interested in hacking together cheap lights out management for an assortment of oldish computers; emulating USB input devices with a microcontroller is easy, so if I could get VGA I could trivially remote control 10-15 years of computers. Unfortunately, somehow all of the "Pi LoM" projects I can find require HDMI.)

hdmi to vga adaptor?

i don’t think you can just do vga to usb as it’s analog to digital isn’t it?

A vendor could display a nag screen at inopportune moments to connect the TV. As far as I know Samsung does this.

we have a samsung tv that is exclusively used with an apple tv and it’s seemed ok this far but i’m not sure how/if i can completely kill it trying to connect as we currently have no nearby open networks but if one pops up it’ll try and connect and i detest that

I'm confused by the categorical distinction you are trying to make between Jobs and Musk. What's the problem with electric cars that (almost) drive themselves, rockets that land themselves, and broadband internet in remote places?

he calls people pedos for no reason and then bitched about being sued
