The Linux developer pool will increase. C programmers are mostly old hands these days, and they're a dying breed. Rust opens the possibility of kernel development to younger or less experienced programmers, many of whom only have had experience with modern languages and frameworks.

This is false

Sure, I am here to state the current state of the world and point to the most up-to-date way to find out what the status is, that's it.

Which side of this debate do you think the City of London and Wall Street are on? Crypto has been a panacopia for finance.

You could disable the Lua GC and mostly manage C buffers with Lua functions. There's some precedent given that Lua has been used a lot in embedding

Embedded != real time

Lua is definitly not the best option, but GC isn't an issue when a real time aware implementation is used.

I don't think this is true. No current GC tech is fully hard real time. (I am happy to be corrected, as it'd make my life way easier)

Good for Joel and Jeff. They made a good product that produced value and people loved. They finally made the big bucks they deserve.

Uh. I stopped at the Shuttle example. It was expensive because it was a bad design (or a good design meeting bad requirements)
