I think Swiss cities show an even better example of how to utilize (mostly) existing rail tracks to ogranize a suburban rail network. Zurich S-Bahn is a good example, with 32 lines and alot of double-decker trains. Fun fact: this S-Bahn system also features a 2-class setup

I came here to say the same. The Swiss system is actually far superior, in my experience and opinion.

Ignore them. I’ve played around with this stuff so I have some idea of what it’s all about, but only minimally. I haven’t used it for work at all. Despite this, I remain gainfully employed, and I’m convinced that I’m still going to be fielding offers at the age of 90 because pretty much none of the programmers diving into this stuff will have any idea how a computer actually works. You can keep your toes in the water without much commitment.

Go's quite horrendous and limited type system makes it a poor fit for everything. The worst thing about Go is, in fact, the language. Everything except the language redeems it.
giik · 3 months ago
Can you elaborate a bit on how does "Go's quite horrendous and limited type system" get in the way of crafting agents?

Honest question, I am genuinely interested in what cannot be done easily or at all due to limitations of the Go type system.

I am yet to find a better introduction than Busby and Kolman's "Introductory Discrete Structures with Applications".

Beautifully written, concise, very accessible with the precise right amount of formalism.

The intro sounds awfully familiar...

> Sam’s Letter to Employees.

> OpenAI is not a normal company and never will be.

Where did I hear something like that before...

> Founders' IPO Letter

> Google is not a conventional company. We do not intend to become one.

I wonder if it's intentional or perhaps some AI-assisted regurgitation prompted by "write me a successful letter to introduce a new corporate structure of a tech company".

When I got to that part (line 1) I stopped reading.

Really nice simple to understand article. I do wonder if the capabilities demonstrated here are specific to the LLM in use in the article or would most models display similar behaviour?
giik · 4 months ago
It seems wide spread and also supported by Gemini at least: https://ai.google.dev/gemini-api/docs/function-calling?examp...

It's a very elegant idea and the article did a great job at introducing it and explaining how to use it.

Fascinating!

Living in Europe nearby, I've visited the museum multiple times in the past decade. It's one of my favorite standbys to take relatives or friends to. Can't recommend it—and Bolzano, or Bozen, depending on whether you lean Italian or German—enough!

All right, off topic but I've seen this a bunch lately and the term just really irritates my brain for some reason. What's its origin? "[adverb] based" just feels so wrong to me. Shouldn't that be a noun: "Evidence-based medicine", "values-based", "faith-based", etc. Does "physically based" bother anyone else?
giik · 7 months ago
Fully agree. My brain hurts when i see adverbs in improper positions like so. It’s called an adverb for a reason…

At the end of 2023 BH Photo Video was selling the M1 Max 16” 64G/2TB for 2,499. It’s the lowest I’ve ever seen it anywhere and I got one myself.

> This is no longer true, I believe (starting Dec 1 2023). You can buy the vignette online starting immediately

If that's true then it's possible that Asfinag (the toll agency) haven't updated their website. On trying a test purchase just now to buy a two-month or annual pass it still states:

"I'm a consumer

Digital 2-month vignettes and digital annual vignettes purchased today are valid from 25.12.2023 at the earliest due to the right of withdrawal when purchasing online. All other toll products can be used immediately. (More info in the FAQ)

I represent a company

The right of withdrawal does not apply to commercial customers; purchased digital toll products are therefore valid immediately. (More info in the FAQ)"

giik · 2 years ago
I was only partially correct. Looked again at asfinag and the grace period does not apply to 1 and 10-day vignettes. From their website:

"18-days-period Consumer protection is very important to us – especially as far as our digital products are concerned. Customers can withdraw from the online purchase of a digital vignette within 14 days. Taking into account a further three-day period for mail, your digital 2-months and annual vignette is only valid from the 18th day after purchase.

This deadline does not apply if you purchase a 1-day or 10-day vignette!"
