I wish 7-zip would support .tar.gz the way WinRAR does.

WinRAR allows you to browse a .tar.gz without extracting it, 7-zip extracts the .tar to a temp file. It makes working with large .tar.gz files impossible.

(Yes I know that because of how .tar works WinRAR must decompresses it to build the files list. But it beats having to write a 1TB .tar to disk just to see the file listing.

I think that at least since win10 there is zip embedded in windows, it’s just not 7z

Zip support has been in Windows since XP.

In 11 (and maybe later 10 updates) they added 7z and rar support.

Anti-science types keep holding this up as some kind of 'gotcha' or as a waste, but in the end it shows that the scientific method and the scientific establishment work efficiently.

Despite even intentional fabrication, the truth of it was found in a few years and the field marches on.

I agree but 16 years is still significant. It represents 5% of the modern medicine era.

Just about any medication you want can be freely ordered from abroad. It is not against the law to use either, as they're not controlled substances. It is illegal to sell them for medical use without complying with pharmaceutical standards and a prescription, but it is not illegal to buy them.

Interesting, so buying prescription medication from abroad (and without a prescription of course) is not illegal as long as it isnt a narcotic?

Yandex.com has divested from yandex.ru and the former is nominally not based in Russia.

I personally believe they are still 100% managed by Russia, as I'm sure you do, but this is all feels and not facts. Facts is yandex.com isn't sanctioned so that can't/shouldn't be your reason for wanting to silence them.

I’ve always found stalwart interesting but have been a bit sceptical due to the main developer being quite anonymous. It seems that there is a company behind it as well "Stalwart Labs" but I cannot find information about it either, no linkedin and no people. I might just be used to openess as in devs not being anonymous though.
gertop · 3 months ago
For better or worse there's an immense amount of anonymous developers behind major projects that you likely rely on a daily basis. I wish more core projects had a policy of no anonymous people in the core team at least, but it is what it is...

That's not really much of an issue. There's an adjustment period, and there's a bit of an art to finding an appropriate mask. One that fits perfectly fine for you might have an exhaust port that blows air in your partner's face. Or the one that your partner can't hear at all might sound thunderously loud in your ears.

But all in all, your partner would much rather have you sleep with a mask than choke all night.

> That's not really much of an issue.

Yes yes love conquers everything and whatnot. Doesn't change the fact that some people need absolute silence to fall asleep and a CPAP machine is very disturbing to them. So they have to sleep with earplugs which, again, is an issue for other reasons.

Please don't generalize your own experience with your partner onto all of us.

If the DNS error doesn't bubble up to the eyes of the average user it might as well not exist, so torrentfreak isn't wrong.

Of course CloudFlare hijacking the domain and sending traffic to a page they host isn't a great solution either...

Could not possibly disagree more. Trying to hide details from developers causes immense and suffering.
gertop · 4 months ago
Absolutely. Breaking apps for all users when the system's page size changes is much better than inconveniencing the handful of developers that would have to work around a more abstracted page size.

Same reason why I think electron is great. Devex for 3 people is so much more important than ux for the 30M users.
