Yep, I suspect this is all marketing fluff and no substance. I see a lot of superlatives but no substantial technical breakthrough here.
felixg3 · a month ago
This is Bosch and not some random startup. It’s for sure a substantial technical breakthrough of integration, miniaturization, and if coming from Bosch, certainly enterprise and clinical-grade ready.

For some reason, I struggle to see Berlin as a deep-tech hub. Most startups there seem to focus on consumer-facing products—like Zalando, Flink, and HelloFresh. In contrast, Munich is clearly leading the way in deep-tech within Germany. The investments raised by companies like Helsing and Isar likely surpass the combined funding of all the startups listed on that page. Munich also benefits from strong technical universities and the presence of major R&D offices from companies like Apple and NVIDIA.

Yeah, but certainly wasn't common until 802.11n 5GHz stuff shipped and became in common consumer use. The target market for a psp would have had 802.11b or .g 2.4 GHz only home routers/APs. Think Linksys wrt54g and similar.
felixg3 · 7 months ago
Yes and even plenty of 802.11n devices were 2.4Ghz only.

To be fair, Microsoft has shipped like five AI portals in the last two years. Maybe four — I don’t even know any more. I’ve lost track of the renames and product (re)launches.

They made a new one to unite them all: Microsoft Fabric.

Anrdoid and iOS don't support USB HID natively. The iPod does with Rockbox, but I'm probably the only person still carrying one around.

The best solution I've found for pocket-sized USB HID is an EspUSB Tiny:

https://github.com/cnlohr/espusb

It's an ESP8285 acting as a USB keyboard, with the keystrokes coming over WiFi from a nearby phone.

Do you have a suggestion for a Bluetooth HID bridge? To use Bluetooth mice and keyboards with a generic dongle that presents as a usb HID to the computer, similar to how apple does peripheral support?

Thank you for adding this here, I was working on compiling something similar for another comment on the thread. This is pretty much the gold standard and yeah those that keep up on preventatives and testing are usually the least likely to pass anything along. More information is better, not less! These puritanical views on human sexuality, like the comment above yours to which you're responding and others, only cause more hurt and don't really have any sort of deterrent effect. Peeps be fuckin', nothing you can do to stop it besides get the best info and treatments out there.

Hi, I wanted to clarify here that I don’t have „puritanical views“ on human sexuality, but I am aware of my bias and wanted people to give me further information. I could already „smell“ that I was wrong with my perception, hence the comment. I didn’t want to cause any hurt with my questions, please assume naïveté and not malice.

What I have noticed is that in most situations saying "PrEP" is enough. For my doctor that meant discussing Truvada, Descovy, and what is just kinda dubbed "Injectable Prep". This aligns with most apps also just saying "on prep" with no distinguishing between what prep.

I would imagine that if/when this comes to market it would likely similarly fall under "Prep" for the general community and then you discuss the specifics with your doctor.

Edit: There is also Doxypep (I just say Doxy), which while related to STD's is not related to HIV.

felixg3 · a year ago
There are people announcing their PrEP status on dating apps so they can raw dog with strangers? Have people forgotten that there are plenty of STD besides HIV? I think this is highly problematic and lifestyle PrEP seems to be counterproductive as a public health measure.

But I am open to arguments that I’m wrong. It’s possible that I am biased as a monogamous heterosexual who has grown up in a culture where sex without condom, especially outside committed relationships, is generally frowned upon and 1980-1990s HIV scares are still in the consciousness of people.

> You can still fly businesses and pay the same price as before

You can't really though - e.g. 25 years ago you could fly economy from Vancouver Canada to Sydney Australia for $2600. (Inflation adjusted.) You can now do that flight for $1400. Pretty good, but the kicker is that flying business class is now $5300. Even premium economy is $4400. (Prices are all the cheapest I see on Google Flights over the rest of 2024, so some of them are limited to very specific dates.)

Probably the most equivalent price to 25 years ago is basic economy plus paying for a meal, snack, checked bag and selection of an exit row seat, but today's premium economy is probably the most equivalent service level to yesterday's basic economy.

felixg3 · a year ago
Very interesting. A flight from Europe to Sydney, for example, is 1150€ round trip.
