This seems to have a glaring flaw in that a fake AI generated person could have a real-world doppelganger, which a tyrannical government could mistakenly arrest, or worse.

What if you used the faces of that tyrannical government's leadership?

Hey man, if people would stop buying their mocha lattes, internet, phones, computers, and netflix, they could save so much money that they could upgrade their carboard box in the park to a carboard box mansion! /s
emptyparadise · 3 years ago
Then the mocha latte industry will crash and somehow it will also be the people's fault.

The square footage of this building is double that of Meta's MPK 20/21 complex, and comparable to the entire Googleplex.

It wasn't even headquarters for Bell Labs.

A reminder....all glory is fleeting!

Bell Labs is our industry's Roman Empire.

It's a little ironic to me that even rants about how programming has gotten worse recycle the same points from 30 years ago. Read https://391.org/manifestos/1991-manifesto-futurist-programme... and spot the difference.

From the company's POV, aren't they likely to benefit from setting you up on dates that either go mildly unfortunately, or leading to a short-term relationship at best? The customers are paying for dates after all, not long term relationships.

Certainly one way to deal with ghosting though - I can understand the reason behind it, but it's incredibly inconsiderate and harmful behaviour. On the other hand I've taken to double checking plans with people 24 and ~2 hours before they were scheduled, which sometimes helps people not forget about plans they agreed to a while back.

There is something funny about the financial incentives of a dating app pushing the app to make sure its users don't date.

Highest DAU for xx% less overhead is literally winning. That's why people have lost their minds. They want him to fail so badly and they're getting the feeling that he won't, so cognitive dissonance is through the roof.

If you're a power plant owner and want to maximize energy output, setting the plant on fire is certainly one way to release a lot of energy very quickly.

Do you think more CEO from startup going to try to emulate Elon? To be extremely demanding of employees in a very abrasive manner, basically the opposite end of the spectrum of how most tech companies cater to employees the past decade.

I have a feeling many CEOs, of all company sizes ,will try to be like Elon. Like how many CEOs were trying to be "Steve Jobs" back then, it was trendy to be pixel-perfect to the minute details.

i wouldn't want to work for a ceo insane enough to want to emulate elon musk after watching the twitter trainwreck

I think that department has already had a stroke.

For the last month or so, on a daily basis, I have been getting the same spam messages (subject line: "You've been chosen”) in my inbox, often classified as important. No amount of reporting them as spam seem to help.

However, what ended up in my spam folder are emails from Amazon informing me about winning $100 in their sweepstakes. (When I found them it was too late to claim the prize as confirmed by Amazon's rep.)

I get that spam is hard, but weighing an account owner's signals more than other signals seems like a good strategy. (And if it is not, please do correct me!)

Meanwhile my mailbox decided to send every single email to spam.
