How does this help Soundcloud's bottom line? They aren't a streaming service that curates and licenses's content intended for specific regions are they?

They have a lot of user-created music that doesnt exist anywhere else. Maybe they're trying to sell that dataset to AI companies for training their models. If they allow non-residential IPs, those potential customers could just scrape their site instead.

These days it is rare for a phone to be able to be used without a battery. The reason is that the max energy consumption when the CPU and GPU are running 100% exceeds the wattage that the device can accept over USB PD.

I've had success using a large capacitor instead of the battery. To keep it charged I connected its positive leg to the 5v USB pin through a diode.

No, OWL only appears to have specific driver requirements, namely that they expose to userspace functionality that any remotely modern WiFi chip should already have.

Under what legal theory?

They could claim copyright infringement if you distribute their SDK in your firmware without their permission.

I believe how it works is that if the letter is not responded to, it becomes a subpoena. If that's not responded to, it becomes either criminal or civil contempt of Congress. Bear in mind that this senator is chairman of the Senate Finance Committee.

Can a single senator issue a subpoena, or does it require a vote?

I don't remember my hives overflowing or bees exploding when I didn't harvest the honey.

My bees would swarm if they filled up the hive and had no space to put more honey or brood.

This judge just ruled that they did violate the Constitution. You are arguing a case that was already decided.

Maybe the judge was wrong. Let's see if this ruling gets appealed.

This is likely because the DMSP satellites are outdated: "In 2015, Congress voted to terminate the DMSP program and to scrap the DMSP 5D-3/F20 satellite, ordering the Air Force to move on to a next-generation system." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defense_Meteorological_Satelli...

The GOES-R satellites seem to have equal or better resolution: https://journals.ametsoc.org/view/journals/atot/4/4/1520-042...https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GOES-16

DMSP resolves to 600m, while GOES-R resolves to 500m (don't confuse it with the older GOES satellites mentioned in the article).

> Let's be honest here, ads are trying to get you to buy things

The issue is that those are not the only ads Youtube is showing to people. You can basically upload any video and make it an ad. Sometimes Youtube's moderation fails and some nasty stuff slips through the cracks:

> In the latest incident, a Redditor describes how their young nephew was exposed to an explicit ad while watching a Fortnite stream by the well-known YouTuber Loserfruit.

> “My 7yr nephew was watching Loserfruit (Fortnite streamer) and then came up to me asking what Loserfruit is doing because this ad started playing,” the concerned uncle shared.

Hell, they'll show weight loss ads to people with eating disorders - and this one might just be intentional rather than a failure of Youtube's moderation:

https://www.reddit.com/r/fuckeatingdisorders/comments/18gx1v... (Just one example but it's not hard to find more)

"Psychological abuse" is very much not hyperbole in the worst case scenarios. And as an extra bonus, Youtube promotes scam ads as well:

This seems to be a very big problem for YouTube:

“In 2023, we blocked or removed over 5.5 billion ads, slightly up from the prior year, and suspended 12.7 million advertiser accounts, nearly double from the previous year,” the platform told us at the time.
I wonder what proportion of those 5.5 billion inappropriate ads were removed only after people watched and reported them.
