> How does Govt picking winners and losers going to help?

By ensuring that the US retains at least the ability to manufacture second tier CPUs vs complete reliance on Asia? This doesn't seem unreasonable.

Achieving that doesn't need to take the form of a 10% stake in a flailing company.

The correct corporate tax rate is zero, or the correct income tax rate is zero. Double taxation on employees of corporations is ludicrous and warping.

IMO corporate tax should be zero, and we tax individual people instead.

Limited liability needs to priced to reflect the enforcement costs. Sole props are "free".

I've had a really great experience with docker compose and systemd units. I use a generic systemd unit and it's just as easy as setting up users then `systemctl enable --now docker-compose@service-name`.

Why do retailers put up with Honey? They're clearly not providing value with the attribution theft. Why give them money?

> Let's just make housing a human right and that'll do it.

How would that right read? Maybe “Every Canadian has the right to housing in the desirable neighborhoods of Toronto”? I’m not sure if that is really feasible.

dpbriggs · 8 months ago
"Dignity for minimum wage" may be a more realistic tagline. It's not particularly good faith to say it's a detached house in Toronto.

We're sliding towards workhouses of the 1800s. Policy should lean towards a one bedroom apartment being achievable for all of the working class.

It's bizarre that we've prioritized increasing shelter costs for all of those who haven't hedged it. It's costing the next generation and is just unsustainable.

It wouldn't even be a bad thing if rent was low. But it can't be, as that would probably imply a lower cost of ownership.

The higher the ROI the more people invest in building housing, bringing the price of housing and the ROI down. This is the general rule of supply and demand, to which exceptions are exceptional and rare. It is the single most well accepted principle in economics.
dpbriggs · 10 months ago
That only work when supply isn't constrained.

It's on my TODO list to add Restic support to BorgTUI[0]. It supports Rustic but the beta nature and iffy performance leaves something to be desired.

Fandom PoE still pollutes the top of Google searches :(

There is an extension which automatically redirects you from Fandom to the new wiki. While that's convenient it probably helps Fandom stay near the top.
