Can we talk about the "sexy anime girl" thing? Seems it's popular in geek/nerd/hacker circles and I for one don't get it. Browsing reddit anonymously you're flooded with near-pornographic fan-made renders of these things, I really don't get the appeal. Can someone enlighten me?

2D girls don't nag and I've never had to clear their clogged hair out of my shower drain.

I don't think I've ever actually seen Anubis once. Always interesting to see what's going on in parts of the internet you aren't frequenting.

I read hackernews on my phone when I'm bored and I've seen it a lot lately. I don't think I've ever seen it on my desktop.

I’m glad Valve never sold out with Counter Strike. The game still has that raw brutal aesthetic that works so well with the gameplay. It’s a big part of the reason the game feels the way it does.

Other games have lots of wacky skins and stuff but the Counter Strike games never had that and hopefully never will. Some of the unofficial servers are pretty wacky which is fine as they are unofficial.

Newer versions of counterstrike have skins/loot boxes
dominick-cc commented on Why does a fire truck cost $2m   thehustle.co/originals/wh... · Posted by u/Guid_NewGuid

Our community has three large fire trucks, and one is sent out for every 911 call, even though the vast majority of calls are for medical emergencies, not something requiring a fire truck (which always arrives quickly, but a subsequent ambulance on call is what inevitably hauls a patient to the hospital). I've never understood why the fire department doesn't acquire and dispatch small vehicles for all those medical calls instead of a giant fire truck. Seems like that would help hold down costs.

I assumed it's so it gets used, otherwise it would just sit there and might not work when needed

I don't think it is entirely mental - I had thought the same, but I recently had a very cheap rental car for months, so long they called it back to the shop for an oil change and then gave it back to me... that car drove SO much better after the oil change, the engine was quieter and smoother and the difference was obvious because the car had no vibration or sound insulation.

All I can think is maybe they changed a clogged air filter at the same time. Otherwise it has to be placebo.

For local network sharing between my devices I tend to use LocalSend [0] which is absolutely brilliant, pretty much replaced my USB stick for transferring files/folders between devices on the same network.

I like localsend too. But for some reasons I need to disconnect from tailscale in order for it to work properly.

I made a similar project https://github.com/dominickp/hn But I really like how your version shows a text version of the article in the UI.
