This is amazing. I like the Logitech mouse + kbd that I have but the Logi apps are crap. At some point (not too long ago) I had to run TWO Logi apps because the newer one didn't have support for my keyboard. Mind you, it's some MX artsy-fartsy with the volume knob, so it's not old hardware. Also the app was awful, the volume knob didn't work right away, then the volume would go up and down some 5 minutes later on its own. I'll gladly get rid of the Logi apps ASAP.

I made Flash Games back in the day. Here's my old profile on Newgrounds: https://cableshaft.newgrounds.com/

One thing Flash had that nothing else has really seemed to replicate as well since, is an environment that both coders and artists could use. I'd collaborate with an artist, they'd make their animations within an FLA, send it to me, and then I'd copy+paste into the project file, and it'd just work. I could even tweak their animations if need be to remove a frame here or there to tighten the animations and make it feel more fluid, etc.

That being said, I'm not sure I could go back to it now. I've been working with Love2D lately, and I prefer that (especially for the version control). FLA version control was always me going 'GameName-1.fla', 'GameName-2.fla', or when I got a little smarter 'GameName-Date.fla'. Eventually they let you split out the actionscript files into its own files, and that was better for version control, but you still had the binary mess of the FLA file.

But all these sprite-based game editors just can't handle the crazy intricate animations that vector-based Flash games could handle. Porting one of my old games (Clock Legends) that had hundreds of frames of hand drawn animation for a boss that filled the screen would be ridiculously huge nowadays, but the FLA for that was like 23MB, I believe (I'll need to hunt it down, I have it somewhere), and several MB of that were for the songs in the game.

Excited for this project though. It deserves to come back in some form.

Have you tried Rive? It seems to have a lot of potential for game development.

Maybe Rive fits this well enough? (Not affiliated, just looked into it at a time from a render engine perspective)

I came here thinking the same. To me, it looks like Rive is the closest tool with the highest potential to be a Flash replacement.

I have tried just now and it didn't work at all. I can select brushes and colors, but nothing gets applied on that white canvas! Using chrome on Macos.

The European Parliament voted to end clock changes in 2019 [1] but it got stuck and nothing happened. Meanwhile, BC just goes ahead and does it. I suppose one can still dream... :)

Haha. I'd suggest that what's missing in the um "latent space" here, is that the triangle should be a pentagon involving some form of bacon/sausage, and some form of potato.

This cracked me up, because I had a fantastic dream the other night where I had a tour through a donut factory. But the best thing I had (in the dream) was something I'd never tried before, never seen, and which I intend to make at the earliest opportunity. It was slightly salty french fries, buttered and coated in sugar and cinnamon, like cinnamon toast. Bang on. Makes a lot of sense too, if you think about it. Definitely would fit in the "dark breakfast" polygon.

[edit] the potato and bacon theory also comes from what ends up deliciously mixed on your plate at the end, which along with syrup and ketchup is also an integral part of any egg/flour/milk breakfast.

Isn't a basic soufflé gonna fall somewhere in the dark breakfast territory?

I was confused what OP is talking about, becuase in all the screenshots I don't see any unlabelled icons, I just see icons next to words.

I was wondering... is OP in fact saying it should be just words, without the icons next to them? Which is an opinion you could have, I think it's not entirely unreasonable (although as you say Nielson contradicts), but I wasn't entirely confident it is the point OP is making... or are they just talking about unlabelled icons (few if any? I'm not sure?) in those screenshots?

I still am not totally sure what OP is arguing.

OP is talking about the third example image, where there are these "stars" icons in the title row of the table. It does look like what people are using to mean AI-something, but indeed.. AI what?

Funny that I selected some subjects such as art, technology and human sexuality, and after a bit of scrolling, I get an article on Technosexuality. TIL.
