You absolutely can use @ in sane codebases. And you give the example yourself: In other languages you often enough see that boilerplate where thrown exception is discarded, because there is no sane reaction to some edge case and you just want the program to continue, because you know it will work anyway. And that's @.

Note though that @ was already neutered in some earlier recent PHP releases.

This.

One common use case for the @ operator, is when "destructuring" array members into variables. In some cases, you can't know if the member will be available, but it's not important if it's missing. In that case, you can silence the warning.

$array = ['apple', 'pear']; @list($mainFruit, $secondaryFruit, $tertiaryFruit);

Since I suppress the warning that would occur due to the third member not being present, the program will continue executing instead of halting.

Still waiting for ZFS on OS X

It was implemented in some of the earlier Leopard beta's iirc. Possible speculation from my side, but it was probably removed due to licensing once Oracle expressed interest in acquiring Sun Microsystems.

I’ve been using uBlock Origin Lite on iOS for several months now, but one shortcoming I see with the newer WebExtensions implementation in Safari is that WebExtensions can’t be used with the in-app Safari views, meaning extensions such as this one don’t work with in-app Safari views. There was an older Safari content blocker API that did work with the in-app Safari views, but it seems like apps are being updated to stop using it. As a workaround, I’ve been trying to set my apps to open the Safari app for links where possible, but I would have preferred to use the in-app Safari views.

As a side note, I personally HATE apps that opens links in an in-app web view (apps like Instagram, Facebook, etc). I really wish Apple could have a system wide preference where it could force in-app web views to open in the browser.

Don't you need to have purchased the game before you have the right to enjoy it? How else do you prove that you have paid for the license to run the game if you don't have a copy. That was my initial interpretation.

What if I just simply promise to not enjoy it?

the problem is that if there was a tailwind-like replacement for css, nobody would ever use css again lmao.

Moderation on Reddit has been questionable for a long time and its killing the site. To give some examples:

- /r/energy used to ban everyone in favour of nuclear energy

- If you post on /r/conservative you can expect to receive a bunch of bans from unrelated (popular) subs. Doesn't matter what you posted, being associated with that subs "taints" your account enough for some moderators.

- /r/UnitedKingdom banned me for critizing a government welfare program

- /r/assassinscreed banned me for critizing a character in their latest game

For me it makes sense that the smaller subreddits should have the freedom to moderate as they want but the larger reddits should aim to at allow opposing viewpoints to prevent echo chambers from forming. Moderation should be focused on quality, not on viewpoints. Obviously it goes without saying that threats of violence and celebration of murder have no place on any platform.

The irony is that all this censoring just creates a backlash and further polarisation. If you are only allowed to discuss certain subjects on a "left" space you both create the illusion that the left only cares about a subset of topics and by banning people you create resentment that drives them towards (more welcoming) extreme spaces.

There's many factors that form the political preferences and opinions of the younger generation but it would not suprise me if for a subset (young college educated males?) of them Reddit heavily contributes towards increased polarisation.

It goes both ways. If you try to post anything remotely criticizing Donald Trump or his government on /r/conservative you'll also get banned. Even if you try to keep it objective.

> Mojang, even pre microsoft, has never provided any sort of modding support.

I believe Mojang now provides deobfuscation mappings[0] which makes life slightly easier for modders.

[0] Although all I can find are people saying "we should move to Mojang's mappings!" rather than an official Mojang announcement.

djxfade · 5 months ago
Whats the point of the obfuscation in the first place, if they offer mappings to deobfuscate it?

I already think the power-on noise sounds like an obnoxious fart. I can never remember how to suppress it so I refuse to turn a macbook on around other people.

I may as well install this to reaffirm that yes, this is an Apple product (in case you fail to see the prominent logo) and yes, I am better than everyone else for owning one (/sarc).

Open System Settings, click "Sound" in the sidebar. Under the "Sound Effects" section, you'll find a toggle labeled "Play sound on startup". Turn this off to permanently disable it. Otherwise, the startup sound is tied to the audio level you had before last shutdown.

I don't follow how Rosetta 2 supporting Mac games from the x86 era is going to "shrink" that number.

macOS x86 games + macOS arm64 games == same number of games. Whats the loss angle here?

djxfade · 6 months ago
I think what they meant to say was that Rosetta 2 is going away in the future, leaving only native AARCH64 binaries compatible
