I have found the ideal highway speed to be 90. Set the adaptive cruise control and relax.

90km/h? I've come to the same conclusion. It felt too slow at first but I got used to it. It's safer, more economical, speed cameras aren't a problem and traffic pretty much dissappears. I don't think I can ever go back to driving faster, there are too many benefits.

Keep in mind that the US is only about 10% smaller than all of Europe combined.

While I would love more walking/biking friendly cities, what about all the rural areas? It would take millions and millions of buses or train connections to get to all the places I drive and would still be more of a hassle than just driving there myself plus I couldn't pick the scenic routes.

People in major cities have different needs than those in rural areas.

No one has said we should eliminate cars entirely. Cars make sense in rural areas, we should use them there. Cars don't make sense in cities, so we need alternatives.

It would be interesting to see what will happen if the times of the trains are moved to random other times within the hour. In might well be that short transfer times is just statistical consequence of having many scheduled trains.

There are probably some trains that are intentionally synchronized, but I don't think there's too many of them, because synchronizing all trains is simply impossible. For instance if you have a timetable where it's convenient to transfer from train A to train B, then in the same timetable it will be inconvenient to transfer from B to A since you will have to wait almost 30 minutes (or an hour for hourly trains).

Also a nitpick: "Gemeinde (administrative limit of a city)". Gemeinde means "municipality". All small villages belong to some municipalities.

It is possible for train A and train B to arrive at the same time, and depart at the same time, allowing convenient transfers in both directions. From my brief experience on Swiss railways, I found this arrangement to be quite common.

The entire crew was rescued. The article is nonsense.

This time. A fire on board a vessel is highly dangerous and should always be avoided if possible. If a car was the cause of the fire, additional safety measures should be implemented on these types of vessel to potentially save the lives of the crew.

Why is it no longer possible for Egypt to grow its own wheat?

Egypt is mostly desert, the only arable land is on the banks of the Nile.

Would be too bad if the developer just doesn't do that right?

Unfortunately code that did that would probably not pass the App Store review process.

If I was not 100% confident in performing this transaction (which I would never be) I would send $1 as a test before sending the other $499,999. Is there a technical reason preventing one doing a test transaction first?
denni9th · 4 years ago
The downside to doing this is you have to pay the transaction fee twice, once for the $1 and once for the $499,999. The transaction fee is a fixed amount irregardless of how much is being transferred, so it's definitely better to pay the fee twice than risk losing it all if you are even slightly unsure.

The comment that passengers were "negative before take-off" is largely false. Only non-vaccinated passengers were required to show a negative PCR test (max 48h old) or RAG test (max 24h old), vaccinated passengers were allowed to board without any restrictions.

All passengers on any flight leaving South Africa must show a negative PCR test, including those who have been vaccinated.
