I echo this. If you liked murderbot, you might also like the Battleship Chronicles series by L. Claire (1), and ofcourse, the Imperial Radh series by Ann Leickie (2), and bobiverse, mentioned below, by Dennis Taylor (3), among others..

Are they any longer? Murderbot is a nice read, but it feels like really expensive short stories.

By the time the book gets going, it's already over.

My guess is that they’re trying to do it temporarily to boost sales for the WC bundle they’re in as a bonus perk. Blizzard, however, lost the assumption of goodwill by their customers years ago and resultantly, this will not be taken well.

To be fair, Warcraft does need a remaster.

Have you tried replaying it? You can't even RMB to move units, you need to click the move icon then select where.

Warcraft 2 does not (imho), and last time I tried it, Warcraft 2 BNE still worked just fine, so that's probably getting shut down now.

An easy photo app fix: Photo app > scroll to bottom > Customize & Reorder > deselect everything but Media Types and Utilities.

Thanks! That made it a lot more useable again.

It's been the absolute worst experience since updating.

Unfortunately Brazil also legalized it in 2018, after Dilma was impeached using very sketchy arguments (many call it a legal coup).

It is spreading as a cancer. This month the central bank published a report saying that in August 20% of the Bolsa Família, the largest money transfer program for very poor Brazilians, was spent on these bets.

Out of the 20 million people that receive it, 5 million made bets during that month. This is 2 billion reais (about $450M) spent in a single month by the poorest Brazilians.

It's a cancer. Everywhere you go there are ads. The influencers, the biggest athletes and musicians are marketing it.

Although I tend to be liberal, this needs to be heavily regulated.

> The influencers, the biggest athletes and musicians are marketing it

The government is marketing it.

Public concerts hosted by the municipality will have gambling ads posted all over, sponsored by the latest scam.

Sample size: Alagoas/Pernambuco. Cannot say anything about the gambling ads in the other states.

Alcohol takes the fun out of socializing when stripped of it you are left with tables, chairs and a room. And company that spits and slurs!

Without alchohol social scenes may be more creative. Karoke. Board games. Social games. Deep conversatiobs. Challenges. Parties like you had as a kid.

I absolutely cannot imagine singing karaoke without alcohol.

Alcohol certainly does not preclude it.

The usual suggestion, often given by HN's patio11, is to charge, and charge more. For some reason free customers are the most demanding, and the more you charge the more people self-select out of the customer base.

> For some reason free customers are the most demanding

Ever try giving something away for free on an online marketplace?

If not, don't. Always charge something. Even if you'll just tell them afterwards you don't actually want/need the money.

You'll run into the worst people imaginable on the internet.

This isn't a link shortener - this is a tunnel so that a user sees they're connecting to cloud flare, even though on the back-end they are landing somewhere nefarious. The end-destination is completely hidden from the end-user (and any security stack their corporation may have in place).

I don't think it's unreasonable for people to expect cloudflare to be policing their own service for malware when they're trying to pitch themselves as a security product.

But you're not the customer, you're the consumer.

Are they pitching themselves as safer for the consumer?

Dear Samsung, I will never ever buy one of your tvs again after you injected ads in my tv
definitelyauser · 2 years ago
I thought the ads were bad enough, but my Samsung TV will start lagging and freezing when it's connected to the internet.

Had to buy an AppleTV (box), factory reset the TV, and use the AppleTV to stream to my TV over HDMI.

TV worked fine when I first got it, but after updates and internet it just became completely useless if left to it's own.

Yeah, Yandex is the only place to go if you want to avoid the overwhelming grip that the west has over every search engine and every vulnerable source of info. I just can't stand their damnable captchas.
definitelyauser · 2 years ago
Start off by searching for "yx" or "xy".

Then do your actual search.

If you're going for image search, do the yx/xy text search first, then you go over to images.

That'll (for some reason) never give you a captcha.
