Driver pay comprises about 60% of the cost of owning and operating a public transit bus.

Driver pay or labor? Because drivers are not the only labor

"Self driving cars" is better termed as "autonomous vehicles".

There will be many modalities of autonomous vehicles and one of them will be buses. Autonomous vehicles will hopefully be a large boon to public transport or just transport for people in general as it should drive down prices along with making it more accessible as it can run 24/7/365

The bus driver's salary is not the primary reason busses don't run 24/7

> I doubt a PR is going to be buried if it's useful, well designed, good code, etc, just because of this disclosure

If that were the case, why would this rule be necessary, if it indeed is the substance that matters? AI generated anything has a heavy slop stigma right now, even if the content is solid.

This would make for an interesting experiment to submit a PR that was absolute gold but with the disclaimer it was generated with help of ChatGPT. I would almost guarantee it would be received with skepticism and dismissals.

The author explains why

> While we aren't obligated to in any way, I try to assist inexperienced contributors and coach them to the finish line, because getting a PR accepted is an achievement to be proud of. But if it's just an AI on the other side, I don't need to put in this effort, and it's rude to trick me into doing so.

If it's bad code from a person he'll help them get it fixed. If it's bad code from an AI why bother?

Seems to violate a bunch of guidelines, take your pick.

Then flag it I guess, but adding intentionally wasteful load to the power grid so that you can turn it off when the grid is overloaded is equally as silly as my example

> rather questioning first if the future being peddled is actually what we want

The author (tom) tricked you. His article is flame bait. AI is a tool that we can use and discuss about. It's not just a "future being peddled." The article manages to say nothing about AI, casts generic doubt on AI as a whole, and pits people against each other. It's a giant turd for any discussion about AI, a sure-fire curiosity destruction tool.

It's a tool that we can use and discuss, but it's baffling to claim there aren't also a bunch of charlatans trying to peddle an AI future that is varying degrees of unrealistic and dystopian.

Any number of Sam Altman quotes display this: "A child born today will never be smarter than an AI" "We are past the event horizon; the takeoff has started. Humanity is close to building digital superintelligence" "ChatGPT is already more powerful than any human who has ever lived" "AI will probably most likely lead to the end of the world, but in the meantime, there'll be great companies."

Every bit of this is nonsense being peddled by the guy selling an AI future because it would make him one of the richest people alive if he can convince enough people that it will come true (or, much much much less likely, it does come true).

That's just from 10 minutes of looking at statements by a single one of these charlatans.

...can anyone come up with a legitimately funny punchline for "Why did the sun climb a tree?" I feel like I need a human-authored comparison. (With all due respect to OP's daughter, "to get to the sky" isn't cutting it.)

I'm not entirely sure that a good response exists. I thought GPT-5's "to demand photon credit from the leaves” was very mildly funny, maybe that's the best that can be done?

> It seems like you really missed the point

Yeah, I guess I don't really know what your point was if it wasn't to ask why we get cancer. Maybe that's my fault?

> A medication may have side effects

... beyond the initially understood ones. Tylenol has been around for a long time. When it first came out, people were probably popping it like candy until they realized the limits, and now it's pretty well understood.

And who cares if people are "clutching their pearls"? What harm does that do?

> Is someone trying to force you to take Ozempic?

Not yet, but I won't be surprised if people start pushing for it. Think about things like soda laws and seatbelt laws. If my being obese is costing you tax or insurance dollars and we have this magic pill, it's only a matter of time before the machine does its thing.

People clutched pearls about mRNA vaccines and now the US is ending all funding for them because one of those nutjobs is running HHS, this will cause an untold amount of harm and deaths. The truth matters, but unfortunately not as much as the narrative.
