"Among the clients of the Spark runtime architecture, Scala is the most popular language, followed by Python and Java. According to a recent survey by Databricks, the company behind Apache Spark, 71% of respondents reported using Scala for Spark development, while Python was used by 24% and Java by 5%. Another survey by Typesafe on the Spark ecosystem revealed that 88% of respondents used Scala, 44% used Java, and 22% used Python, with the percentages reflecting multiple language usage. Scala is considered the most optimized language for Spark due to its integration with the JVM and its role as the language in which Spark was internally implemented, offering better performance and access to the latest features."

When is this from? I would be shocked if in 2025 most Spark was being written in Scala

Should have a better name. There is Fabric, a library in Python, microsoft's SaaS offering
csto12 · 19 days ago
Microsoft also called their new replacement for Synapse Fabric. So Microsoft has at least two projects named Fabric.

Speaking as the creator of one of the largest Zig projects, I agree with antirez

As the creator of one of the larger Zig projects, does this announcement undermine your confidence in Zig at all? Either with the language used or the decision in itself?

Background: 25 years of tech. If there's a job done in or around IT, I've done it and done it well. I started with dumb terminal migrations and build world-class databases today. As I like to say, I know the whole data stack from "Silicon to SQL". Lately, I've specialized in building amazing engineers. If you need an amazing team of engineers (think NASA or SpaceX) over a team of amazing engineers (think Justice League or Avengers), then I am the leader you need!

Second half of 2026? I would have thought earlier to preempt the bubble bursting. Perhaps they know the IPO would be a flop (like many in 2000) and want to avoid opening all circular deals and the books to the public.
csto12 · 2 months ago
Even if the books were awful, I still think they would IPO well. The hype is too strong to let a little thing like bad books stop them (looking at you Tesla)

Yes - he campaigned on making America more crypto-friendly in general; this could also be read as part of making good on that promise.

I hope this is satire. Only a moron would think this.

I've never been in one, but the design really looks challenging. I'm not sure it could beat the functionality of a standard "truck" and as a vehicle for "show" there be better options with more resale value out there.

> “the design looks challenging”

That’s a hilarious way to put it

Indeed, `let`s and `const`s incur a significant performance penalty. This is also why the Scala.js compiler emits `var`s by default, even when targeting very recent versions of ECMAScript.

The good news is that we can still write our Scala `val`s and `var`s (`const` and `let`) in the source code, enjoying good scoping and good performance.

I wonder how many companies are still using Scala.js. Scala was fun to work with, wish it was more popular these days.
