The issue for Qubes is security. GPUs can be used to subvert basically all the otherwise hardware-enforced security protections.
In a desktop, couldn't you assign a GPU to one video machine and in that scenario would there still be a security problem when there is only one VM using it?

I wish Youtube etc would blacklist requests by these companies, but am not optimistic. Curation seems like the path here, but it seems difficult. (See also the recent Kagi thread here, highlighting how being able to curate which sites appear on your search results is a big deal)

Can we stop framing fertility as a national/corporate policy issue when its almost entirely cultural. And I don't mean that policy is downstream of culture; I mean, people just want to travel, party, and drink instead of having kids.
If you're giving me stats, you'll have to explain why there's very little correlation between income and fertility within nations, and why previous (non-farming) generations had a higher fertility rate with fewer resources, and why a country's fertility generally declines as it becomes wealthier.
People are having fewer children than they explicitly say they want to have.

How much do you estimate it would take to get a politician to flip their view on abortion, gun control, illegal immigration, health care? Seems like if it were "quite low" you'd see politicians flipping views all the time as one side or the other channelled money to them.
What we actually see is a lot of stasis, refusal to compromise, and politicians locked in with their party, which suggests it is pretty hard to influence politicians.
Where money is effective is using it to get politicians who agree with your view elected.
It'll be much harder to get a politician to flip on an issue that voters care about but much easier to get them to vote one way on an obscure regulation that most voters have never heard of.

Fairphone guarantees 8 years of updates for the Fairphone 5.
From looking at their website, that is 8 years of software updates. Not 8 years of Android version updates. Apple has released security updates for 10 year old devices such as iOS 12.5.7 which released in 2023 and runs on iPhone 5s.

The sell but Apple makes around twice as much from services as they do from Mac. Wearables are even bigger than Mac. And within Mac, 90% of sales are laptops. I don't think Apple focuses that much about desktop Macs.
