I know of some modern vehicles that will not start at all if you go about removing the telematics unit.

I am not sure how long will it take before you will not be able to buy a vehicle at all without having to consent to being monitored remotely 24x7, but it will happen sooner than later. And this coming from a developing country. Pretty sure it is much worse in the developed world.

I guess the market for second hand older vehicles might see an uptick because of this and might also see a boom in demand for expertise of maintaining and rejuvenating such vehicles.

In some dystopian future we may have to consent to the DMV to be tracked. They can make whatever rules they want to before they give us permission to use their roads.

All of our retirement accounts are investing in the stock market. That is why it's untouchable. Where else would our retirement accounts put their money?

I kind of want to donate $0.01, but I think that'll either get me on a list or will have some kind of bug that drains my account.

edit: the minimum the form accepts is $5

I tried to donate -$15. It didn't complain about it being a negative number, just that it was lower than the minimum.

Sorry for exposing my personal medical data, but... I literally cannot fall asleep without at least some light. So I sleep with lights on. Trying to be like normal people would only make my overall health worse.

Is this a medical condition that has a name?

codingrightnow · a month ago
Maybe they're exposed to light at night because they're awake at night more often, possibly shift workers, which we already know is unhealthy. I doubt just having light on is causing the effect.

Is prusa the way to go for someone who wants something that just works?
codingrightnow · 4 months ago
I'm not sure anything 'just works'. I have an Ender 3 S1 with autoleveling. I still have to adjust 4 knobs while getting under the print head with a feeler gauge. It's absolutely maddening. I need to do this with every print. If I don't touch the thing for a few months it's really bad. If you don't get it right it will gauge your printing surface or alternatively rip your piece apart as it prints. Then you need to know about bed temperature, nozzle temperature, and a hundred other things. Then what types of filament work best with certain bed types. I wish I never got it.

I was seven years old, and T2 was the first rated R film I saw which gave me horrific apocalyptic nightmares (see: Sarah's dream).

Completely worth it.

codingrightnow · 6 months ago
Saw it at probably 11. Had the same nightmares for probably 15 years. Really shouldn't have watched it. Woke up many times looking out the window for the blast from Sarah's dream that I had just seen in mine.

I’m not going to lie all this sounds like heaven to me.

I absolutely hate the way my appetite works. I have a genuine dysfunction with food. It goes back as far as I can remember. My cravings never stop, even after being satiated. It’s an endless cycle of weight gain then loss then gain as my willpower fluctuates for a variety of reasons.

My insurance only recently started to cover these weight loss drugs, and I have been looking into them over the last month because I think I’m an ideal candidate for it.

If it gives this kind of control over cravings and appetite I’m really looking forward to how this can genuinely make my life better

I'm a major snacker in my 40s, have been most of my adult life. When I don't have my daughter I would fill myself up with cookies, cereal, and chocolate candy. I've been a few months off of all of that shit, accidentally didn't really plan it, I just haven't had any cravings whatsoever. I'm sure it could come back easily but it's not here and I don't miss it. I've lost a lot of fat. I'm not just eating fruit and vegetables, but I'm finding meals alone are enough.

> "... slapping a coat of culture war paint on it - and then selling it as a new scandal..."

Astounding level of misdirection/cope here, bordering on non-factual. Did we just read the same article? This is the textbook example of a DEI scandal and was so from the very beginning. I mean the "textbook" part literally, employment discrimination law textbooks will dedicate whole chapters to this scandal for decades at a minimum.

"Students understood that the FAA hired virtually everyone who completed the program and passed the assessment."

It sounds like they couldn't hire enough people to fill vacancies. The diversity push could have been an attempt to encourage a wider range of people to consider the occupation.

> I also wonder if his supporters have any idea of what is going on.

They do not. Most of his supporters are either rich or uneducated normal people who lack the mental capacity to realize what's going on. They just repeat the talking points. Respond to anyone of them with a non-talking point, compassion, and honesty and they just shut down. They haven't a clue about what's really going on. I bet none of his supporters even know who Robert Mercer is, the person that got him elected in the first place.

codingrightnow · 7 months ago
I feel like you're interacting with the same people I'm interacting with because your assessment of them is spot on. They love the talking points. Whenever you shut down one talking point with facts they pole vault over that into the next talking point. They want to be 20 ft up in the air away from the truth and never question why they've been lied to. They believe and even make up wild conspiracy theories on the spot when confronted with information that conflicts with what Trump and his supporters have said and done. Their brains leap over every possible barrier I put up, never letting it stop them. Maybe I'm not a good debater but facts are facts and they don't seem to appreciate or respect or even value them. I need to find a new, less depressing group of people to be around which will unfortunately mean quitting my job but I just can't do it anymore.
