I built browser use. Dayum, the results for our lib are really impressive, you didn’t touch outputs at all? One problem we have is maintaining the docs with current codebase (code examples break sometimes). Wonder if I could use parts of Pocket to help with that.

As a maintainer of a different library, I think there’s something here. A revised version of this tool that also gets fed the docs and asked to find inaccuracies could be great. Even if false positives and false negatives are let’s say 20% each, it would still be better than before as final decisions are made by a human.

The bigger controversy was the MacBook Pro launched a few months later:

- Ditching MagSafe

- Touch Bar (at first without a dedicated escape key)

- Butterfly Keyboard

- Uncomfortably hot to the touch

- Full-sized left and right arrow keys which made it harder to find without looking

- Only USB-C ports

Whoever had the reigns when Apple finally reversed these decisions and made the M1 MBP -- this is the best laptop I've ever owned.

Yeah, I don't think the 12" MacBook was anywhere near the most controversial, because it was always clear that it was a niche product. I had one and loved it. Those who it wasn't right for didn't buy it.

The 2016-2019 Pros on the other hand replaced a machine that was universally loved. there were entire podcasts dedicated to complaining about them for four years.

It's been a while, but from my recollection that was the main version at launch. It's what I got, anyways. I don't remember the red and blue joycons showing up until later.
cehrlich · 7 months ago
Not sure which version was more popular, but I bought a red/blue switch on launch day. And anecdotally I'd say I've seen more of those than the grey one over the years.

MacOS have always had the best font rendering on HiDPI screens and also the worst on Low-DPI.

Windows is historically very good on Low-DPI but they also managed to be great on HiDPI.

Linux, well, it depends on so much things … you can achieve good on both but you’d better be ok with integer scaling and not have multiple displays with different DPI.

cehrlich · a year ago
Macs used to have good font rendering on Low-DPI displays (I would say the best, but I suppose that’s a matter of opinion)

Then Mojave switched to Metal and removed subpixel AA, and now it’s the worst.

- Raycast for clipboard history and window management (it uses Rectangle internally)

- TripMode for reducing data usage while tethering

- KeyboardCleanTool for disabling the keyboard when wiping it down

Keeping door and windows open while it's very cold or very hot outside can lead to extremely high heating/air conditioning bills. Meanwhile, high quality energy recovery ventilators that can exchange air with the outside without ruining your insulation tend to be a lot more than $200.

cracking everything wide open for 5 minutes doesn't have too bad of an effect on temperature in my experience, and gives you good air for a few hours.

CO2 Monitor to let me know when I need to let some new air into my office. Mine is a TFA Dostmann 31.5009, but any model with an NDIR sensor should be fine, there are many choices around 70-150 EUR.

I pay $0 a year to host my Next.js website on S3.

I use MDX to write posts. I have CI/CD set up to auto publish when I push a new post. It's a simple set up (for a developer).

I don't get why one would want to or need to pay hundreds of dollars each year to host a simple blog, especially if that person is technically inclined. There are cheaper/free options.

Even your average Squarespace/Wordpress/Wix user will pay less than 400 euros a year. This sounds like the exact opposite of "perfect" to me.

Same but Astro on Vercel's free tier. If my traffic suddenly spikes 1000000x, my site might go down temporarily. That's ok.

Paying $400/year to get some static html based on markdown for a personal website seems insane to me.

I'd suggest to not put a bunch of 4chan memes in your product demos.
