On the topic of traditional roguelikes, Caves of Qud is getting its 1.0 release tomorrow. Been in development for over 15 years now, and it’s fantastic. Can’t recommend it enough.

Wow I thought it was going to be later next year. Been anxiously awaiting this before starting another play through.

The writing for this game is just something special.

That happens all the time. Who builds the docker images you are using?

> You've added another link in your software supply chain. How do you know they haven't inserted malware?

You're installing untrusted random packages from PyPI. There are many much weaker points than Astral giving you malware for fun.

Sure it happens, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't think about reducing it.

but you jump through those hoops during setup, vs seven extra characters every paragraph

But then you just end up writing HTML anyways.

Kind of tangential, but:

> Then one day, our designer broke the build in the middle of the night. Everyone came in the next day and couldn’t work until they figured out what had happened.

I've heard this [campfire?] story before. A bad commit happens and now no one can do any work. And I don't understand... Is it really that big of a deal to have to revert to an older commit or comment out the broken code until it gets resolved? Sure, I can see it being annoying, but not bringing an entire group of developers to a standstill. What am I missing?

How does giving them deploy access prevent them from breaking the build, too?

Supply chain risk.

I think the next project adopted by Astral will be PyOxidizer.
cdchn · a year ago
That was my thought as well. "Hopefully someone decides to take on the stewardship of PyOxidizer, too." That might not dovetail well enough with someone's business plans though.

There is always a narrative. It’s how our brains synthesise. The existence of a narrative is neither deifying nor damning.
cdchn · a year ago
A narrative is what a person wants you to perceive, not how you end up perceiving it.

How dare you insult monkeys. :0 lol. They have better short term memories than humans, per 2007 study by Tetsuro Matsuzawa and colleagues at the Primate Research Institute at Kyoto University in Japan.

Monkeys aren't (yet) interested in spending a lot of money on Brioni suits.
