The problem is that everyone (browsers + developers) need to agree on a replacement, which is notoriously hard to do. Chrome got laughed out of the room with Dart/Flutter.
callalex · a month ago
Dart/Flutter was never a technical issue, but a political/monopolistic issue. The underlying monopoly has not changed, so I don't really see a path forward unless the chromium team magically changes leadership.

The SE has always seemed, to me, a way to repurpose older iPhone components into a more modern shell, which is why the SE line has been replace by the 16e. 16e uses iPhone 13 dimensions.

Expanding on this, it's specifically to reuse older tooling in a factory that's not in China like their mainline products.

>Our PMs don't like making things opt-in

Then refuse implementing it. Have some dignity for God's sake.

Having that kind of power as an implementer requires the backing of a union.

By now there is more than one story how some open source developer wasn't hired because their skills with the project they created was not sufficient for the job.

I go back and forth on my opinion for this one. You wouldn’t necessarily want a mechanic or engineer to drive a race car, for example.

Information can be sold or leaked, abused by a single employee for personal reasons, or used en mass for surveillance, regardless of what's written in the paper. Faith is actually an accurate term for this level of trust in government. I for one reject the notion of being tacked at all times by law.

There aren't "people who fall for phishing" and "people who don't", generally speaking. I know highly intelligent and talented people, well educated in general online security, who have fallen for phishing links and scams.
callalex · 9 months ago
Very true. My dad (late 60s) has written a DNS server, but still nearly fell for an email scam when he was sleep deprived and at the airport believing his flight was overbooked and he was going to be kicked.

bitwarden can list multiple domains in one entry for a password - it might be good to find out if you're manager can do that and merge some?
callalex · 9 months ago
That seems like the textbook definition of a bandaid solution. Does that even work for the new hotness, passkeys?

This makes me think of how neuralink and Elon keep saying how their tech will revolutionize communication where people without it will seem so slow and utterly disadvantaged.

Literacy and comprehension allows vast amounts of data to be transferred between humans. Anything that increases that even more will be a game changer and really bad for those who won't have it.

callalex · 9 months ago
He also said cars would drive themselves in 2017, so you probably shouldn't listen to anything he has to say. https://fortune.com/2015/12/21/elon-musk-interview/
