We cant stop! Modern civilization isnt designed that way. The griever stops but the whole team doesn't. The flipside is we have less death than the middle ages because of the technology we have created. Nonetheless no one is immortal. Death is part of the game, without it life would not be possible. (A universe where life is immortal would not have sufficient antifragility to have the evolutionary pressures to make human experience)

I dunno, 5 hours per week without pay sounds like volunteering to me, not like a "real job".

Real job in terms of stress rather than time. 5h hacking on your.own thing != 5h contriburing to a big repo and doing something called "incident response"

But technically it is volunteering.

I have spent hours arguing with someone at my work that the issue we are experiencing at our remote locations is not due to bandwidth, but latency. These graphics are exactly what I've been looking for to help get my point across.

People do a speedtest and see low (sub-100) numbers and think that's why their video call is failing. Never mind the fact that Zoom only needs 3 Mbps for 1080p video.

I dont see how people miss latency. It is the only other number shown on the speed check screen! No curiousity as to why that is there?

I mean I bet they do care about litres/100km for their car AND 0-100km accelerarion (and many other stats)

130ms latency within a city? Are you using sound or something?

Yeah yeah I know thats only 40m ish for sound.

I dont fully understand this but it seems fucked. It sounds like a real job with all the real job issues and none of the pay. Actually antipay as it is an expensive hobby ... might as well snowboard.

Edit: some of that team seem sponsored so maybe I am wrong?

Exactly. It is not philosophical either. Lots of wrongful convictions. Even if proved wrong you may not even get out of prison!

Thought experiment on the nature of reality:

- In a much larger universe, write down in a log book every event to every particle at every instant, from the Big Bang to the restaurant.

- Put it on the fireplace mantle and leave it there.

This is basically a log of a simulation. It exists in much the same way as an ongoing simulation would, except that its time dimension isn't shared with the simulating universe. But every observer within has had the same observations as if it did.
