I wonder when this will make it into pfsense... The transition to kea has been a bit of a mess with tons of bugs. Thankfully it's controlled by an option, and it seems like 2.8.0 knocked out quite a few of them

I've tried a few times to switch to Kea in PFsense but it crashes my network fiercely.

I purposefully avoid demonstrating any of the tools (with a suffix that rhymes with "car") that are popularly used to circumvent purchasing movie, TV, and other media content, or any tools that automatically slurp up YouTube content.

Can't figure out what tool Jeff is writing about.

blamazon · 3 months ago
It's a constellation of tools that have the suffix "arr" - a winking nod to what a stereotypical pirate says, because they are commonly used for media piracy. Some examples are Radarr, Sonarr and Prowlarr, but there's lots of other ones. They all kind of fit together nicely into a stack that can be used to self host your own automatic media downloading and streaming platform.

Growing up in Jersey we called them jitneys. And no, they don’t have them in other cities.

There is in Atlanta. An informal system of cash only mini buses without fixed routes and a focus on Spanish language.

There's probably some high bureaucracy workplace somewhere where only certain people are allowed to use the freight elevator but it needs to be used by others so much they just station someone who can use it there.
blamazon · 4 months ago
I know of an elevator that is also a ticketed access point to a stadium so the elevator operator also scans tickets and gives out wristbands. Very nice for wheeled accessibility.

A fantastic game in terms of atmosphere, artwork, characters and story but I found the puzzles to be too difficult and/or illogical and gave up pretty early into the plot.

Overall I remember being somewhat disappointed because of my struggle to make progress. Maybe my expectations had been too high - I was a recent convert to point n' click at the time and of course LucasArts being masters of the genre, meant my anticipation had reached fever pitch.

I love the game and I'm nostalgic for when games were extremely difficult but for many the best way to experience Grim Fandango without such frustration might be by watching a commentary-free playthrough on youtube. I don't feel viewing the work is meaningfully diminished by not being the button clicker. Once one is familiar with the work there is a great developer commentary that is available on youtube also.

Is this yours?

It's a tough problem, I think. It's missing a lot of roads where I am in Bend, Oregon. Basically, anywhere in the western US with Forest Service or BLM land is going to have a ton of gravel roads. The trick is "are they pleasant to ride on?"

blamazon · 7 months ago
One issue with gravelmap in my area is that some people don't post the best routes so they don't get crowded...

Cool story! Note to future readers: there is no satisfying conclusion to the mystery found in the article. I definitely got baited

I was hoping for a zany “trapped stress” material science explanation but this did not come to pass.

More often I see two or maybe even more software products with the same name. In this case Apache Airflow. The two products serve a totally different purpose. I guess for marketing it would be better to have a unique name.
blamazon · 7 months ago
Clearly the solution is either UUIDs for every product or Fulfilment By Amazon style randomly generated brand names like UGRTRPY.

What does the inclusion of the move to Texas actually have to do with the downfall of the company?

I get that it is the original title, but even the article itself points out that the company was in dire straits well before the move.

The move (and forced relocation of employees) was likely a way to force attrition, since it was followed fairly quickly with layoffs elsewhere.

If anything, including mention of the move in the title just muddles the readers' expectations of the article, IMHO, and the article would be better off without it.

> The move (and forced relocation of employees) was likely a way to force attrition, since it was followed fairly quickly with layoffs elsewhere.

You might expand the full title to "After move interpreted by experts as likely a way to force attrition" to explain the relevance :)

That shouldn't be put forth as a goal. It's how Germany got rid of all its nuclear plants and has to keep burning coal and buying fuel from Russia.
blamazon · 7 months ago
It's also how Scotland ended up harnessing their wind power, much to the consternation of one American capitalist...
