y-curious commented on Ask HN: Is there a "good" (non-privacy horror) aftermarket HUD for your car?    · Posted by u/xrd

Doh, of course, that would make sense that it wouldn't need it's own Internet, just fed from your phone.

May I ask what model of HUD you are using? I did a quick search on AliExpress and there are a bunch.

Sorry, I don’t remember. They’re all the same on Ali insofar as they’re a cheap iPad clone with physical hookups. I paid around $170 because it’s a beater car. If I cared, I’d buy online in the US for $400

And the biggest problem of all: They expect it to be free.

I expect it to be free when the ad revenues are huge and the titles are “you WON’T believe what Elon said on Xitter!” clickbait.

This is why substack exists

If you push a branch with many commits, does it run CI on each commit? In sequence or with some parallelism?
y-curious · 2 days ago
It runs on the last commit with the idea that it will all be squashed at merge. Are you worried about reverting some commits but not all?

Wouldn't the same rule applying to everyone be consistent with the censorship, if every org is subject to the same strict censorship on reproductive themes and sexual orientation ?

"we're consistent" doesn't mean "we're fair"

Good point, it’s I ind of like how NSO, the spyware company, “complies with all applicable laws” of the countries they sell their spyware to.

That was a lot of fun. I found “the” to be a bit misleading. Thanks!

I understand the concern, I have an Aliexpress HUD in my Forester. My question: why not just get one with no internet? If privacy is a concern, get one from an American distributor that supports CarPlay; My understanding is that internet is not shared with the HUD.

I’ve been 100% remote since the Melbourne pandemic shutdowns, and I’ve absolutely loved it for the most part, and hope to be able to continue to work mostly remote going forward.

It definitely has its downsides though, I’ve missed a lot of the incidental chats and socialising, throwing ideas around etc, and it can be a bit mentally draining. I’ve started renting a hot desk at a wework in the city once a month just to be around people and feel part of something bigger. I actually feel less tired after schlepping into the city and back that day than I do on most other days, which is surprising.

I mostly worry about the effects on career progression. I’ve been WFH for 6 years and I feel like I am missing out on making weak social connections as a result.

That said, it’s really lovely overall. I have a kid on the way and it’s hard to imagine RTO now.

I've been using Cloudfront Functions to do some of the filtering that a WAF would do. It's quite flexible, but you've gotta figure out your own rules.

AWS WAF has some presets you can use

In September, there was a bipartisan bill in the House to ban individual stock trading. Members of Congress must divest before being sworn in under this proposal: https://www.npr.org/2025/09/03/nx-s1-5485340/congress-stock-...

I think that one died in committee: https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-bill/5106

There’s another from earlier this year (https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-bill/1908...) that is currently being pushed by a Republican member from Florida. It was blocked by the Speaker. There’s currently a discharge petition: https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-resolutio...

Over the summer, Josh Hawley of all people introduced a similar bill in the Senate.

In a shocker to nobody, the people profiting AND making the rules are not ruling against themselves. An annoying system to be sure

When I was hiking in Joaquin Miller park in Oakland, I saw a man on a dirt bike version of a unicycle. He had just finished a route that I wouldn’t do as a novice mountain biker.

Learning that unicycles don’t have suspension has made that memory even more surprising. I want to understand the motivations, which were not addressed in this FAQ.
