They're still on it though. The new headset prototypes with high FOV sound amazing, and they are iterating on many designs.

They're already doing something like ~$500M/year in Meta Quest app sales. Granted not huge yet after their 30% cut, but sales should keep increasing as the headsets get better.

That'll pay for 50% of an AI researcher!

Nonstarter if can’t use it with Max plan

Jose commented on that that elsewhere:

> I'd love to integrate with whatever model subscription is available but it seems using Max outside of Claude products is against their terms. I suggest reaching out to Anthropic and letting them know you would like to use your Max subscription with other coding agents.

I've thought for a long time that offering only electric vehicles with 200+ mile range as the base availability is overkill. I drive a short commute to work and then maybe 2mi to the grocery store and I have no other needs. Otherwise I take plane/train.

The common arguments I hear are 1. What if I need to take a roadtrip? 2. What if I don't have accessibility to a charger at home or work and need longer range to account for that.

Only (2) seems reasonable to me, but many do have access where they live. Seeing as the huge expense of EVs is batteries, I'd love the option of something with a much, much reduced battery (and the additional reduced feature sets the article mentions).

A friend of mine is maintainer of an open source service used (at least, at one time) by all of the major social media platforms as a load-bearing piece of their infrastructure (intentionally keeping it vague). My friend was invited to interview at one of the biggest and was rejected after having a bad whiteboard session. Of course they immediately replaced my friend's service (ha!)

I love the fantastic designs and form factors popping up in mini-EV truck/SUV space. My worry is for the business feasibility for these. Why isn’t Tesla making these? They have the supply chain and expertise to easily pull it off and they’d be such a big hit. People switching to them for light cargo would be a REAL contribution in cutting use of carbon.

I can think of one possibility. At Tesla’s scale, production becomes feasible only if they can produce X million units. This is because setting up production tooling, supply chain channels, and other associated costs is prohibitively expensive. Additionally, the demand for these vehicles will be relatively low until influential YouTubers in the construction, farming, and rural sectors become advocates and start promoting them.

In my opinion, electric vehicles (EVs) are perfectly suited for this task. They are ideal for transporting heavy items between nearby destinations, such as moving Home Depot supplies to a construction site or Costco products to a restaurant or store. A range of even 200 miles is practical for this use-case and keeps the cost low (MT1 is a beast by my standard).

For clarification, I am all for more competition. But I am also selfish and I really want this segment to become wildly successful . In any case, I really and truly hope they can make the business case work and be profitable/sustainable.

I don't think Tesla's judgment should be the litmus test. They have capacity to produce 250K Cybertrucks / year, currently on pace to sell < 20K and it's only going down from here.

Quick link to the tsunami view: https://www.tsunami.gov/

Just “watch” level for US west coast, but warning level for Hawaii and Alaska.

Glad that Musk torched his relationship with Trump so that the FAA / Starling contract is no longer on the table.

phoenix live view is effectively built around the assumption that the server process never dies and never restarts. its a very dubious model for a production deployment.

> what happens when the server restarts / connection is lost / server dies?

> you lose all of the current client state but you can work around this by persisting all the client state somewhere.

> oh, so why am i using live view again?

benzible · a month ago
This isn't true. LiveView has buit-in form recovery:

It sounds like they actually met with him, patched the issues, and then didn’t respond afterwards. IMO that is quite rude of them toward him, but they do seem to have taken the issue itself somewhat seriously.
