If you don't mind me asking, what's the role?

AI Engineer. Lots of candidates that want to be one but not many with actual experience, is the problem I’ve heard.

Seems like the author is a bit frustrated from unrealistic expectations. Hits home as we’ve not filled a role for over six months.

Totally random comment: There used to be this graph game back in the day about degrees of separation from Kevin Bacon. Seeing Albus Dumbledore 3 nodes away from poker reminded me of that. You can link a graph to all kinds of things.

Hmm. It’s still not close to paid frontier on SWE bench.

It’s under appreciated how many of us fall for over engineering. I’ve been there. Just the other day I had coworker suggest that our startup not use cloud blob storage because it’s unreliable and we should build our own.

Maybe it’s just harder to design with something simple that is possible to extend and build on. Maybe I am missing something. That said I agree with the author from my decade of experience.

The trouble I have with pedantic is that everything is immutable. There are use cases where I need mutability and it’s not bad but a trade off.

Sad but not surprising it was due to Cardiac problems. He was famously using steroids and then there was the 1980s.

The US has long since exhausted it's "easy" oil/gas reserves. Yes, there's tons more down there, but it's increasingly hard to get to. Lots of extraction methods only make sense when the price for oil is above some amount.

If the rest of the world standardizes on solar+battery, demand for oil goes down, and so will the price. Which in turn makes US-produced oil not cost effective to extract, and domestic energy production collapses in favor of cheap foreign imports.

And then we're worse off in several different ways.

This probably a stupid question but do solar and batteries depend on rare earth metals and their supply?

I've spent far too much of my life writing boilerplate and API integrations. Let Claude do it.

I agree. It’s a lot faster to tell it what I want and work on something else in the meantime. You end up ready code diffs more than writing code but it saves time.
