I think you’re assuming when you switch to EV the ICE car disappears. But more likely it got traded to someone else who has less money, eventually making it possible for someone to own a car who otherwise wouldn’t have.

So the emissions stayed the same and you added the carbon embedded in the new EV.

asdf333 · 9 months ago
not necessarily. if he bought your car and traded up from a real clunker with worse fuel efficiency the net result is likely better.

other way to deal with intermittency is to dynamically price electricity. then people can shut off/on usage in response. many activities do not need to be done exactly at a certain time.

it doesn’t all need to be fixed on the supply side

A lot of people here seem justifiably angry at Boeing management's total destruction of an engineering corporate culture. It's unclear to me if fixing that is what the machinists are demanding or if they just want normal union things like being paid more and working less.

No hate if they are optimizing for that, unions don't exist to serve corporate culture. Just want to be clear-eyed about what the union is seeking and (potentially separately), what it will take to make Boeing an American great again.

unions are bad for our economy. they are monopolies in themselves

Fat guy here: these side effects are pretty scary for somebody like me.

3 months of noticeably extra fatigue on top of my current baseline level of exhaustion seems to threaten serious psychological effects.

3 months of brain-fog sounds like a great way to get fired and really fuck up my life.

If my "gastro situation" was noticeably worse than the unpredictable wildy-swinging nightmare it already is, I honestly have no idea how bad the consequences could be for my social life (I would be the flakiest person anybody knows and everybody hates that guy) and ability to make plans / focus long enough to do any work.

For some reason, I don't know why but I've always been this way, there's nothing my body hates and wants to avoid more than throwing up. I dread it. I'm not so sure I enjoy life enough to get through 3 months of nausea.

it could be the effects of caloric restriction. 3 months, in the context of a whole life plus increased lifespan is not that much time.

Other author here! This got a posted a little earlier than we intended so we didn't have our GPUs scaled up yet. Please hang on and try throughout the day!

Meanwhile, please read our about page http://riffusion.com/about

It’s all open source and the code lives at https://github.com/hmartiro/riffusion-app --> if you have a GPU you can run it yourself

This has been our hobby project for the past few months. Seeing the incredible results of stable diffusion, we were curious if we could fine tune the model to output spectrograms and then convert to audio clips. The answer to that was a resounding yes, and we became addicted to generating music from text prompts. There are existing works for generating audio or MIDI from text, but none as simple or general as fine tuning the image-based model. Taking it a step further, we made an interactive experience for generating looping audio from text prompts in real time. To do this we built a web app where you type in prompts like a jukebox, and audio clips are generated on the fly. To make the audio loop and transition smoothly, we implemented a pipeline that does img2img conditioning combined with latent space interpolation.

is classical music harder? noticed you didn't have any classical music tracks. i wonder if it is because it is more structured?

Turning the AC or heating completely off when you're not at home is never recommended. To save power, you just let them run at temperatures a few degrees outside your comfort zone when your away, and it will still have enough thermal inertia to quickly get back to comfort levels when you're back without the risk of condensation/mold.

Where I live, this is even written in my rental agreement, that when I leave home for long winter vacations, I must leave the heating ON.

this is probably more due to pipes freezing
